Maybe someone could help me? I'm going to Aruba, La Cabana in july for 2 weeks. I have to eat wheat free food because of my allergy. Can I find wheat free bread from supermarkets/drug stores or health food stores?
You should bve able to find what you need at the supermarkets as they all bake their own bread as well as carry packaged bread. One big comopany is "Bright's Bakery" ad see if you can get in touch with them.
I was in Aruba for 3 weeks in January. I too have Celiac Sprue. I was able to get gluten free bread at Ling & Sons. I went to the front desk & it was made fresh for me the next day.
I have found that I like the rice cakes better then most of the breads that can be bought. I had no problem finding rice cakes at the stores, also I found gluten free pasta too.
you would be smart to carry it with you just in case. my husband has special dietary needs and we find even with all the great supermarkets in Aruba, thay dont have such special foods yet. They do have great Dutch breads. Be smart and bring your own. We bring what we need with us.
I have the allergy as well. I would not take the chance the supermarkets will have the food you need. Take it with you. As long as you are not bringing in fresh fruits and veggies, it should not be a problem.
I wrote a message about my gluten free dining experiences in Aruba under the topic "dining". Check it out and it may give you some ideas of where to go and not to go.
