Have you purchased your Trip Insurance?

Maybe your credit card covers has some perks, like trip insurance.

My credit card has some limited perks, so we ALWAYS purchase insurance.

We have a trip to Aruba coming up in November and I just purchased the insurance.
Normally I purchase it immediately upon booking, but when I booked this back in March, I apparently forgot.

I went to InsureMyTrip.com, typed in the required information and "voilla"
I clicked 3 policies to compare.

(I am guessing that they take age into the mix)

Here is the policy we chose. ($118 total for the 2 of us)

Trip Cancellation .................................................Up To Trip Cost*Trip Cancellation For Any Reason...75% of the Trip Cost Limit* **Trip Interruption.............................................. 150% of Trip Cost* **Single Occupancy ..............................................Up To Trip Cost*
Trip Delay (Minimum 9 Hour Delay)
    Per Day............................................... .............................. $250Maximum .................................................. ..................... $1,000
Missed Connection (Minimum 3 Hour Delay) ...................... $750Accident/Sickness Medical Expense............................. $500,000
    Dental Accidental Injury .................................................. . $500Emergency Medical Evacuation..................................... $500,000Repatriation of Remains ................................................. $500,000Baggage Delay (Minimum 24 Hour Delay)............................ $300
    Baggage Delivery.......................................... ......................$100
Baggage and Personal Effects.............................................. $750Per Article........................................... ...............................$100

    Optional Coverage:

Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) ............. $50,000Accidental Death and Dismemberment

    Common Carrier (Air Only) (AD&D - Air Only)..............$250,000Renters Collision Insurance - Excess (RCI-E) ................ $25,000

We always purchase insurance. Great reminder. I usually purchase when I'm booking the trip. We've only had to use it once and it was processed very quickly.

In my last few trips I've added to the policy for medical evacuation which does add on a lot to the cost. I called both Travel Guard and Allianz when deciding on which company. I found Travel Guard less expensive. With Travel Guard if you are travelling with kids, insurance is free if kids are 12 and under.

I wanted to add that someone posted some great info here about Blue Cross coverage when out if the country. It seemed to be cheaper for us but I decided I specifically wanted trip insurance because it covers so many other things besides just the healthcare coverage. Plus, this is the company's specialty so dealing with a claim I hope would go smoothly.

    ours was $118
yes tracey...age causes the policy to go higher.
our airfare was $0 using points.
our accommodations at the trop is priced at under $600 for the 2 weeks (yes, not a typo)
there was an add on for the car rental extra insurance

i think paul and i are older than your parents

Ah, I didn't think about the cost of the trip affecting the cost of insurance, I was just looking at our $1 price difference.

Jacki, so glad you didn't need it this trip!!!

This is the first year we did not get trip insurance. I was told by Jet Blue that my credit card would cover it for canceling the trip. I do have Medicare & Harvard Pilgrim health insurance. Do you still think I should take the trip insurance?
