Hospitals and Emergencies

How are the Hospitals and Ambulance there in Aruba. In an emergency are they able to get to you quick and is the care there good. I know when we go to St Martin we get coverage with Skymed in case we had to be taken out of there quick.

Thanks

Over the past twenty years members of our family have had to visit the hospital for various reasons and we are more than pleased with their professionalism and care. We are both seniors with medical issues and have confidence should a problem arise.

Thanks.

Do any of you Aruba travelers have a suggestion on trip insurance. I looked at insuremytrip but there are way too many options. Wondering if one is sponsered here or one that many recommend. Just looking to cover my airline and hotel if someone gets sick and we have to cancel. Also looking for medical evacutation if something happens in aruba and we need to get to a usa hospital.

thanks

Question Aruba Hospital?

Does anyone know if there is an Aruban hospital on the island? It never occured to me to find this out before. I have been to a doctor on the Island, but I have no idea if there is a hospital? It's always good to know I guess.

Yes, there is some more info at:

Hospitals and Emergencies
Pharmacies and hospitals in Aruba
Hospital Situation? good info re: insurance

Observations from my last trip in June:

"Dd's bff's dad though awoke at 4 a.m. not feeling very well. Thought it was food poisoning. We offered to watch the two girls and they decided by 9 a.m. that he was going to head over to the hospital to get checked on. Felt so bad, today was the last full day of their vacation as they are leaving tomorrow. We took the girls while our friends headed over to the hospital.

Only two hours, $189 and very very impressed by the care, service and modernity of the hospital later, our friend was diagnosed with a kidney stone. They prescribed some painkillers, and two other meds. They came back here to the Tam and we called Bully's brother Pierre (Bully will be back on the island tomorrow) to come pick up our friend to take her to a pharmacy in St. Anna. He was actually kind enough to "phone in" the prescription while he was driving, so they actually had it ready when they arrived."

Thanks for the info. I nice to hear good feedback regarding care received from a place you don't want to have to go, especially when not at home.

My husband was sick on one of our trips to Aruba a few years ago and the resort gave a us a 24hour # to call for medical emergencies. This went well. My husband got a bad ear and sinus infection. We were able to get a prescription filled and called in for us.

Thumbs up

----- One better! Our son got sick around 4AM and our resort drove wife and him to the hospital. Needed a precription so resort came back to the hospital and drove them to the drug store.
On the island there is always one drug store that stays open all night.

Just this past May, I awoke at 3am unable to breathe and was taken to the hospital where they said I had congestive heart failure. They took excellent care of me and I was admitted to a heart unit where I spent a few days. I have only good things to say about the care and professionalism I received. I would have no fear of getting any klind of care at their hospital.

I got strep throat the Sunday before the Monday we were supposed to leave. Long story short, the emergency room was ok but they had to call in a specilist (On Sunday). His office and equipment was cleaner and more modern than my own Doctor here at the states. The only problem was he didn't take Insurance. We had to pay cash or credit. I couldn't believe the cost $55.00. On a Sunday. We also had to pay $25.00 to the emergency room.
