How many people were stranded in Aruba because of the Snow Storm on East Coast?

I would imagine that many people that were due to fly back to the East Coast this past Friday and Saturday were stranded in Aruba. I am curious to know how the airlines handled. I would also imagine that the people flying to Aruba from the East Coast on Saturday morning did not get to take off because of airport closings. Are there any stories that anyone would like to share with us?

This didn't take place this past weekend, it was in 1996. It was our first trip to Aruba and New York got hit with a blizzard. We were "stranded" in Aruba. We were scheduled to leave on Sunday and JFK was closed down. When we got home my husband would say "the people in NY thought they had it bad with 20 inches of snow, but we had it worse, cause they ran out of pina colada mix and ice at the pool bar. Now that was really roughing it. Of course, it was wonderful having to stay 4 extra days. The hotel (it was the Americana in those days) let us stay in the room we had and charged us the same rate we had been paying (we were on a package deal). The biggest problem was (and this wasn't really a problem) we ran out of clean clothes and had to do laundry.

Missing my winter vacation flight is always my worst nightmare. Only time I have had a flight canceled due to weather was a flight I was taking for work to the upper peninsula of Michigan. I wasn't missing much!

Friend of mine was due to fly out of JFK Saturday morning, and he got off fine. As i walked out of my office building tonight, at 7PM, into a windy 20 degree night, I cursed him under my breath!! LOL

Getting Stranded Because of Snow

Glad your friend left for Aruba from JFK without a problem on Saturday. From what the media was saying, all flights were cancelled from all 3 airports (JFK, La Guardia and Newark) on Saturday. Several years ago there was a rain, ice snow storm and we were scheduled to fly out of Newark that afternoon. We prayed that our flight would not be cancelled as many flights were cancelled that day. But, low and behold our Aruba flight got off on time in the heavy wind, ice mix. The aircraft was really shaking as we took off, but once we were above the clouds, the sun was out and we were on our way to the land of sunshine
