If need be they can fly around it. Might make for a longer flight, but you will get there.

Ivan passed to the North of Aruba in '04 and the initial effects to the island was heavy surf in the Baby Beach area.

A day or so after Ivan had passed the island got socked with a a band of weather associated with the hurricane. There were reports of tornados and severve flooding.

At one point they cut the road along Eagle beach to help drain water off of the island.

I don't think it's dangerous at all the hurricain will pass well north of the island. The only thing you may have to concern your self with will be possible scattered showers and intermittent wind gusts today friday through tomorrow. I would not go para sailing until sunday, years back I was in cancun and watched a person get caught up in a squal and the boat operators could not get the shoot down due to an up draft.

Do be careful if in Aruba on an overcast day. Speaking from experience, sitting under a palapa andf in and out of the ocean on an overcast day (VERY rare for Aruba indeed) you can still get a serious sunburn. Keep using that suntan lotion as you would on a cloudless day. Reapply frequently, especially after swimming and don't forget the top of your feet and ears. Did I say I learned this the hard way?

My friend learned it the hard way last year. It was CLOUDY, all day long - no brightness to be had.....and she got toasted!

And the good news is....

Just went to the Delta website to check something and saw their Dean Advisory. They are allowing passengers scheduled to certain specific destinations to reschedule their flights. Aruba is NOT on the list.

According to the latest NOAA forcast (11:00am EST) Dean has inched Northward which means it's moving away from Aruba now. The long range forcast now says it will pass North of Cozumel and the Yucatan.

Bad new for Jamaica though and the Texas Gulf area.
And our wallets and pocketbooks. This could mean a spike in oil prices.

Captain Anthony from Tranquilo just posted on another forum regarding the speculation regarding Dean.

"The wind will be next to nothing tomorrow coming from all possible directions, Sunday it will start to pick up from the normal direction but only about a third of the wind speed we are used to, seems like the rest of the week will be like Sunday. The boat is in the marina and I'm using this opportunity to do some work on the diesel motor and the mainsail boom. These repairs have to do with our upcoming crossing to the island of Bonaire in preparation for the Regatta."
