Are there any left damages from the Hurricane i am leaving for Aruba on Friday
According to the reports I have read in other forums, the beach in the area of the Holiday Inn has a lot of seaweed washed up along with pieces of coral. You may want to bring water shoes just to be on the safe side???- see what others here think. Also the beach was "moved around" a bit. They have brought bulldozers in to truck away the seaweed and put the beach back the way it belongs. The Arubans are working hard to get things back to normal. Everything else is running smoothly.
Rough sea destroyed turtle nestshttp://www.amigoe.com/english/
Aruba has almost notice nothing of hurricane Dean. It remained dry and also the wind was reasonable calm. The sea was rougher than normal though and that caused spectacular waves as seen here at the north coast.
The sea around Aruba was rougher than normal due to hurricane Dean. It caused heavy damage to several turtle nests.
ORANJESTAD – The rough sea around Aruba due to hurricane Dean has destroyed a few turtle nests last weekend, mentioned Turtugaruba, the foundation that devotes itself to the protection of these animals.
The enormous waves were rolling deep inland especially on Saturday. The big Leatherback Sea Turtle nest on Costa Linda was washed by a big tide and damaged the nest considerably. According to Turtugaruba, the 60-days breeding time was just over and the young turtles were about to leave their eggs and go to sea. The foundation is doubtful whether there will still be living baby turtles left in the nest. “The sea has dropped a thick layer of sand on the eggs and the eggs must have gotten wet and receive therefore no longer oxygen.” Sea turtles have lungs and must therefore breathe. Oxygen is also needed for the development of the eggs.
Also another Loggerhead Sea Turtle (Cawama) past the Marriott Hotel on Malmok had a hard time last weekend. Near Dos Playa, where many Leatherback Turtles laid their eggs, there were sea turtle eggs between washed ashore seaweed, driftwood, and plastic on Sunday morning. The sea has dropped thick layers of sand on this beach also and washed away a few nests.
The Leatherback Sea Turtle season is almost over, but the season of the Green Turtle and the Hawksbill Turtle has just begun. There are already nests on several places along the coast. These nests are not marked by Turtugaruba. If not driven over, these nests are most of the time safe in the nature, without the adverse effects of artificial light, like on Eagle Beach.
The beach at Bucuti slopes down so from the camera angle it lookls like no one is there, but we are.
I went to Baby Beach on Sunday while all the beaches by the high rises were a mess. It was awesome! Like a swimming pool. Great snorkeling. Beautiful sunny day eventually came out.
