If We Had An "off Topic" Category

we could talk about the:
Red Sox
Our kids
Our Grandkids
Our jobs
Fabulous Fall weather here in New England
The drought in GA.
The fires in CA.
Our crazy relatives
Mean people
What's for dinner
and on and on and on and on.

not holding my breath for the Off Topic category to come to light any time soon.
I want the NEW CATEGORIES more that you can imagine.

I don't understand why there isn't one. All the other boards have some kind of off topic area.

Does Admin not know that the fun areas of the other boards are what keep the regulars around so that when a newbie comes there are folks to answer the Aruba questions.

In the meantime, I suggest that we use one of the other categories (maybe the little used 'family' one) and just start our fun topic with "Off Topic ......"

Well, well, this IS a pleasant little thread so I thought I would indulge and continue it. I too would love to see an Off Topic Category and have pm'd everyone responsible. In the meantime...
Red Sox- going to win the WS
Our kids- cranky and going to bed REAL soon, Yeah
Our Grandkids-
Our jobs- How's Andrea's swim team fairing this season?
Fabulous Fall weather here in New England-
The drought in GA.- Rain forecast for all week, but will amount to < 1/2 inch, good for the plants but not the rest of the water supply, google news for the town in Tn. that has water from only 6 - 9 pm each day
A local headline Mussels Convenient Scapegoat for Ineffective Politicians Back up plan? They never thought of having one!!!
The fires in CA.- Santa Ana winds are unbelievable, when friends lived in Colorado they were always worried about their roof blowing off
Our crazy relatives- not enough space
Mean people- all of these polite gentile southerners...NOT
What's for dinner- I made stuffed cabbage and it came out horrible, threw away the recipe
and on and on and on and on.- heard from a friend tonight who I haven't heard from in 7 years...the wonders of email and reconnected with another over the weekend

As a Moderator with my friend Andrea I have been keeping quiet (as much as possible).

I am watching this board as much as possible but I feel that as members of this board members YOU should post before I do. This is your Community Forum and I don't want to hog the board. I like to see responses from other members. If I see that a question (post) is not responded to (and I have the answer), I will answer. But I wait until I feel it necessary to post.

Maybe Andrea, our Senior Moderator on this board may disagree with me but I think we can get overwhelmed with alot more topic's. There has been a discussion from some members for more categories. My personal opinion is that that we have enough except for (what I call it) "Everything Else".

I "try" to wait too, but sometimes my fingers get the better of me....well, most times they get the better of me.

I think that we do need an "everything else category" where folks can get to know one another as we can talk about things NOT related to aruba. It would be easy to moderate as we do not have to be so diligent about deleting and banning. It'd be a category that we can moderate with not as much emphasis on rushing...........because our first job is the aruba related topics.

i too have emailed and pm'd the ata administrators asking for more categories (everything else, weather, airlines/fares)

my swim teams........they are practicing for a dual meet this weekend vs. nashua. our 8 and unders and 10 and unders are weak but we do have numbers! our 11 and 12s and 13 and 14's are strong. our varsity is still playing soccer, field hockey and lacrosse so may miss this particular meet. typically our varsity age 18 and unders are the power house kids.

got a message from a friend in la jolla, ca. she is 3o miles from the firestorms. she and family are safe but their city is very smoky.................so smokey in fact her smoke detectors are going off if she keeps her window opened.

hate to use the word hurricane/tropical storm but that is just what georgia needs now. a slow moving tropical storm that rains on the southland for a week!

why do we (the usa) continue to %$tch and moan about water issues when we can be taking the technology from israel and aruba and build many many water desalinization plants? isn't it about time we have become proactive and start using our technologies? (wind power, solar power, desalinaiztion plants?) not to mention employment opportunities.

now time for more coffee.

I was talking to one of our clients in San Diego County yesterday and they were being evacuated. I work for an engineering firm that is designing a power plant at Otay Mesa. The client (a field person for the constructor) said that they could see the fire on a ridge about 3 miles away. Today I spoke with them and they were back onsite saying the fire retreated to roughly seven miles away but they were on high alert for evac again. Truthfully, I don't know if I'd have shown up for work today if I was them!!!!!

So: Finally we've left the beaches , moved back into our offices and created to new categories:In our opinion we don't need a new category for weather. Most times it's good enough and if not it is changing so quickly, that information would be outdated soon. If you want to discuss the weather, just use the general forum.

In addition to that we are thinking abou the possibility to include a gallery function in this forum, so you can share your great vaccation pictures. What do you think?

So for now enjoy the new off topic category and talk about all the other funny things in life.

As I requested before, I would like to see each timeshare have its own category. So if you own at the Playa Linda, La Cabana or the Surf Club, etc. you can discuss things that only relate to your own complex.

In my opinion adding a categoriy for each timeshare facility would make things too clutered. I would suggest to add the facility it to the beginning of the subject. Maybe we can post a sticky note or I could look into a solution which would allow to tag threads with the timeshare facility. What do you think?

I agree with your thinking Mr. Burns - too many categories will make the board too "cluttered". Thank you for adding Aruba Lounge - Off Topic and the Travel category.
