    IMPORTANCE of TRIP/TRAVEL Insurance

There is an older couple in Aruba right now.
The wife took ill and is hospitalized.
A med flight back to USA is necessary.

    They have NO TRIP INSURANCE.

I am NOT asking anyone to donate.
I am only posting the link as it provides the story.

MOST if not all foreign countries do not accept your insurance, but will gladly take a credit card.
Many insurances (except Medicare, Medicaid and some others) WILL reimburse some or all of what you spend providing you have appropriate receipts)

Again I AM NOT ASKING ANYONE TO DONATE...I WANT TO BE CLEAR ON THAT.
Gosh, i sound mean and harsh...i am sorry.

It is the story and the need for trip insurance that I am promoting.

Imagine for a $100-? She would of been all set with insurance? I watched it on the news this morning and felt so bad. I guess it was a blockage in her stomach. Maybe (diverticulitis?) Nothing to fool around with. Insurance, insurance, insurance! : (

    exactly!!

so many believe that if the need arises and they go to the ER in a foreign country, their home insurance works.

so many people think that medicare will reimburse.

so many people believe that their supplement will reimburse....many do not reimburse

so many believe that it won't happen to them.

a major credit card with a large available limit is required.

Trip Insurance will reimburse, providing receipts and documentations required are provided.

i feel so badly for this lady and her husband.
it is bad enough to be ill while on vacation, but then to add in the financial aspect .....overwhelming and catastrophic.

Thanks for reminding people Andrea. I stress that all the time to get trip insurance not so much for cancellation of trip but in case you need to be evacuated. Medivac cost anywhere from 15 to 25K. I just came back from a cruise and last evening in the middle of the ocean they had to air lift a sick passenger which required medivac to a hospital. Except we were in the middle of the ocean near north fork virginia. The coast guard came in a helicopter and dropped down a gurney which they strapped some to and then one of coast guard was with him while they were pulling him up in the middle of the ocean. Scary! The waters were ruff and very very cold...I'm glad he made it to the helicopter and hope they saved his life at the hospital.

Our trip insurance increased by 50% for our June/July visit next year.... and still a bargain for the peace of mind.

Has anyone used trip insirance in the Aruba hospital? I'm wondering, do you pay and then get reimbursed? We met a lady who was in an ATV accident and had to pay cash for her treatment. Luckily it was only $900 for her ambulance ride, stiches, and xrays and exam.

the insurance is NOT accepted at aruba hospital as payment

cash or credit card payment is required.

then one is reimbursed from the trip insurance, or regular health insurance (not medicare or medicaid) and the balance not covered is then submitted to the trip insurance

i had an ear infection a few years ago and went to the ER at 2 am.
i had to use my credit card.
once home, i submitted to my regular health insurance and was denied since i was out of network...they did not cover, i submitted to my trip insurance and was reimbursed fully.

    airlift.......

medical evacuation using airlift ...the cost is directly charged to the trip insurance company.
so, the person(patient) is not required to put that huge charge on the credit card.
the medical evacuation part of the insurance has specific instructions in the event that evacuation is needed.
