Exclamation Island Wide Power Outage at 8 pm

It is believed there was a lightning strike to power plant this evening at about 8 pm. Information comes via a friend whose parents live in Savaneta. As of midnight they still had no power on the island.

We had just finished dinner when the power in the restaurant went out. Hotel and Casino generators provided some power for lights and elevators, but rooms in the Costa Linda had no power (no lights or AC). Power came back on at 6:00 AM this morning. All is well again in Aruba.

Very interesting, in our 18 visits we had never seen lightning, until last week when there was heat lightning off the western coastline. Apparently there is some type of tropical wave off right now. Luckily for the tourists, not expected to last.

Oh yes - and we have really good ones to. The first one I saw was when I was on my belated honeymoon 12 years ago. Stayed on the last tower on the top floor overlooking the Marriott which was nothing at the time. Could see all the way to the lighthouse. We were there our last day, in our room on our balcony when we heard the "BOOM" of thunder. All the car alarms went off from the vibration. It was very cool.

A few years ago - we had T&L storms almost every day for a while!

We don't get hurricanes but is something is "going by" - we get
the rain and T&L

Our power came on about 2 AM. But dumby me had opened the door for some cool air, and we eaten by mosquitoes. That is the first time in 8 visits I had ever gotten a bite. Must have been the heavy rain and also our location (I don't think they spray like the hotels do, we were at a B&B inland). Very eery feeling seeing absolutely no lights anywhere.

When Bully picked me up at the airport on the 5th, he told me that it was almost the worst that he has seen. He stated that the power plant was struck once, and they shut it down to prevent any further problems. Luckily when I got there the weather cleared up. So it must have been me!
