i have been reading a lot about muggings and attacks against tourists because of the struggling economy, which is making me rather nervous considering i am leaving in 2 days. did you notice beefed up security? did you feel safe while there?

Not to say that crime does not happen, but I can say that we felt perfectly safe while on the island in June .
Take the same precations as you would at home. Do not walk unlit areas at night and do not walk alone at night.

I travel all around the world for my career and I agree, use common sense, your not at home, research the areas you wish to travel.
We have never had a problem even at 3 AM leaving the High Rise Casino's. Yes, I agree the water was warm and the island is busy yet not overly crowded. |

I echo what everyone else has said. It's all about common sense. I traveled to Aruba by myself in June (I'm a female), and had no problems at all. Of course, I stayed near the resort in the evening but was able to walk down the street or across the street for shopping.

thanks everyone. i guess hearing these stories about groups of local youths hanging out and looking to start trouble scare me. i think it's the unpredictable behavior of the younger generation that scares me.....a group of young kids seem to be more "ballsy" and i shudder to think of being approached or attacked by a group of unruly teens who really don't have a conscience.....
