La Cabana Wi-fi and Internet

I unfortunately have to take my work with me if I want to go for 11 days to Aruba. Part of that is I must bring my laptop. I use wireless in the states but it will not work on the Island. You can purchase a wirelss card and program, easy to install, for $5/day but it only works in the lobby's. It is .20/monute to connect.
Or you can use the room internet but I heard many people complain they couldn't get on. Your best bet is to go upstairs by The Cadushi bar where you will find a number of computers. Easy to use. Just sign in with your room number and name, pick how many minutes you would like to be on, and go. These computers are fast so to get out a few quick e-mails to friends and loved ones would probably take 10-15 minutes or $2 to $3. Much cheaper than making a call back home.

Another tid-bit of info...you can use your own cell phone on the Island, must be a Motorola. I understand you buy an Arubian phone number, which you keep for life, and you get a chip that installs into your cell. Then you can make calls to the states or anywhere. Unfortunately that is all the info I have but Setar behind the MacDonalds up by the high-rises can provide all the info. There is a Setar downtown also. Just be careful what the charges are per minute.
I hope this helps.
Thanks and Enjoy Aruba!

Re: La Cabana Wi-fi and Internet

I opened Internet Explorer on my laptop and a LaCabana symbol came up asking me for my room number and how many minutes I would like to use. I did this in my room and my wife did this down by the pool. It was fast, easy & convenient. Since the resort is so large, it's possible that not all rooms have access, but ours did. Before this, I used a notoriously slow & unpredictable dialup service on the island. This is much better.

You can use the internet upstairs at the cadushi lounge, however there are never enough computers. When i was there i waited almost an hour because there were tons of teenage girls online IM'ing their friends,I had told them i wanted to make a 2 minute email home to let everyone know i was ok and to check on my family. Finally i had to go to the front desk because they just wouldnt let anyone else use the computers. I was told the best time to use the internet area was around lunch time, so i would stop from my way back from the beach in the afternoon. I hope this helps you!

There are different packages and I forget what they are. If you just need a few minutes, you can buy it by the minute. You can buy it by the day and go on as much as you want or buy it by the week. You can email someone at LaCabana & I guarantee they will respond and let you know the story. Again, as for convenience, it was great and our signal was reliable & fast... this was Feb 2005. I'll be using it again in about 10 weeks.

WiFi is $35 for a week or $10 per 24 hour period. We stayed at Bucuti & it worked great from the room or the beach. Check the website:
http://www.wifi-aruba.com/
We bought the card with the key code at the front desk & had no trouble getting on at any time.

Does anyone know if this still holds true for 2007?

Yes, the cost of the Setar Wi-Fi card is still the same: $10 day, $35 week or $70 for 1 month.
