After a year of significant changes in my life, and then just plain believing the Gods were determined to work against us, we're finally booked to return to Aruba.

Unfortunately, my good friend Brian (met him on the island in 1999) will only be there is in spirit this year as he left this earthly world this past June. We shared some fine times sipping Balashi.

The countdown begins until I see Bully's smiling face!

We left on Tuesday and the waves were huge. Some as tall as the "pelican hangout pilings". Totally destroying the beach in front of 1300. Waves were coming up and over the boardwalk at 1300 and 1200.

Fortunately just a short ways and not close enough to the rooms.

If memory serves me correct they began mid afternoon on Monday. Looking at the Bucuti cam today they are still rolling in.

It's a true experience to witness the power of the waves. We were there 2 years ago March when the waves came over the boardwalk and into the rooms. They ended up evacuating 1100 & 1200 blocks. Gave a new definition to 'warterfront rooms'.

We have many memories and still smile about the experience.

Lisa,

How bad were the waves damaging the beach at the Tamarijn? We are due to arrive on Saturday Jan 16th and always prefer the 1200 building. We were there Oct 2008 and the beach was really bad. Went back in March 2009 and it was just beautiful as I remember it from years ago.

1200 should be okay. It was 1300 that really lost a lot of sand.
