Congrats Aruba you played very well. I don't watch sports but today you guys captured my heart. As I walked into our restaurant I noticed everyone working in the kitchen and cheering on Aruba as they scored. If I was in Michigan I would of made it there to capture the footage and give these kids photos to remember .
I am proud of these baseball players and the coach...
Capturing the passion and love of your special day in paradise.

OMG....I was so hooked on this game I could not sit still! I was cheering for Aruba during lunch at the local pub restaurant, felt kind of weird until I explained Aruba is my second home :-) What an exciting game. When we arrived it was tied 2-2, it became 9-4 Florida at one point but I did not give up! It was a very exciting game to watch and all the kids did great! I agree with Andrea some of the Ump calls we shaky to say the least but oh well, good sports all around. How cute were the kids I loved how it showed their favorite foods, cheese fries, mac and cheese, pizza etc. It was so funny and their cute nicknames. What a fun way to spend my afternoon!

    i saw 2 WRONG calls.
but what i saw and what the ump obviously saw, it was something very different

the 3rd call, the balk, i do not feel as comfortable calling that a missed call by the ump, but to me it looked like he was off the rubber.

i am sure aruba is so very proud of these kids.

    florida played a good game

i hope aruba throws these kids a huge party!!
    disclosure

Congratulations to Aruba for excellent play and very good sportsmanship.
There were some questionable umpire calls and at all times the Aruba manager/coach, mr pourier was a gentleman!
    Aruba baseball players...............you did well!!
    Thank you
Andrea, as an umpire, I can tell you that there were definitely two bad calls that led directly to runs for Florida. Aruba should have won the game without going to extra innings.

It's too bad, but you're right -- the Aruba manager conducted himself with class as did the entire team. Congrats to them for a great season. Perhaps they can make it back next year!

Oh, and the expenses for the players and coaching staff are covered by the Little League international organization. The only expenses would be for the travel and lodging for family and fans.

Thanks for the info re: costs/expenses.
I could not imagine the kids and parents would have to do fundraising for the entire amount.

Congrats to Fla and hopefully AUA will be back next yr!

The homerun hitter from FLA.........we'll be seeing him in the majors someday!

It was a great game Saturday even though we eventually lost in an extra inning. At one point we were down 5 runs 4-9, and came back to tie at 10-10, in the end lost 10-12 in an extra inning. They played their hearts out, and save a couple possible bad calls earlier in game may well have won it. Almost didn't attend as its an hour and half drive from our house, sure we're glad we went

    Ariba Aruba!!!

    Your guys are the Best!

    Hi all:

Have been to your beautiful island just once (so far)--first post, but I feel compelled to post, after watching the games Friday (International and US championship games) and Saturday (World Series final, Aruba vs. USA (Florida)) in Taylor, Mi. (We are Canadian, and live just outside of Toronto).

Your LL players are the best!! Your coaches are the best!! Your fans are the best!!

We quickly became Aruba fans while watching the International final on Friday night. Your players played strong, spirited, gutsy baseball, were well coached, and the fans showed incredible energy and spirit!

We returned Saturday to see your boys fall behind, but never give up, and watched as they struggled back to tie the game. Yes--there were a couple of bad calls--I believe the balk call in the top of the extra inning was very ill-advised. I'm not even sure whether it was a balk or not--does anyone really understand the balk rule--I've played and watched baseball all my life, and have recently re-read the balk rule at least 6 times, and am still not clear on it--it's kind of like trying to understand the soccer offside rule, huh?! Anyway, the point is that the balk should not and need not have been called. C'mon--these are 13-14 year old kids, playing with the balk rule for the first time ---it's in extra innings---the score was tied---one out, runners on 1st and 3d. Whatever was considered to cause the balk was, in my opinion, totally inconsequential--it had no bearing on the game--so why call it? Especially in extra innings, especially when it would bring in the go-ahead run? Bad, bad decision---I know umpiring is a tough, thankless job, but that was just a bad, possibly mean decison. We noticed that, after that call, the wind sort of came out of the Aruban sails, after which they walked in the other run, and then couldn't get anything going in the bottom of the 8th. Too bad--we so wanted to see your boys win.

But--what a great job!! To go all the way to the LL World Series and actually play in the final, and to play like champs and win hearts all around! (My son's team lost in the playoff of our Ontario Provincial final (just before the Canadian Nationals)).

Our hats of to the Aruba Juniors, the coaches, and the fans!! Your boys are WINNERS!!! We hope you had, or will have, the biggest party to celebrate your team's success, and we wish you all the best of luck going forward!
