It's called "over-umpiring". Yes, the rules are the rules....but it took an inflated ego to make that call.

PS - Number 6, is your "name" by any chance a tribute to "the most beloved Red Sox player ever"? I'm just guessing.

Didn't see the game or call in question, but there is a difference between a bad call and one you don't agree with. The written accounts of the game all agree that it was unfortunate, though opinions on the balk/no balk seem to differ. Calling a guy bad or saying he has an inflated ego is a bit over the top, for simply making a call you disagree with. Over the course of the series, they evaluate every umpire in every game. In the final, the guys with the best ratings at each position get the call for the championship game. It's a very apolitical process.

I've met a ton of umpires from all over the world at the series in Williamsport over the years and while some have missed calls (and they would readily admit that themselves) none of them were bad people, bad umpires or had an inflated ego. Most of them were a blast to hang out with and the war stories from their years of experience were always a treat.

Great--but give me a bit of notice, as I'll need a couple of weeks to train. It'll be hard to keep up with you guys. Your fans are like Energizer Bunnies--they don't stop moving the whole game!!

True about the cheering section, my wife had to ice her shoulder for two nights after the game, for all the clapping and cheering!

    No--but very apropos---RIP Johnny

Actually, it's an homage to my favourite TV show of all time--The Prisoner (the original, from 1967-8).

It was an allegory on personal freedom; the individual vs collective tyranny---the hero (Patrick McGoohan) was known as "Number Six".
