You are staying at the perfect place, Brendan. My husband and I visited the Marriott in 2003 and are staying at the Surf Club next door, this September. The hotel is beautiful; large, CLEAN rooms with a safe, small fridge, sitting area, large balcony and comfortable beds. FYI..you may want to ask for a room on a higher floor (5th or above), otherwise, the palm trees could block your beautiful views of the sunsets from the balcony!
There are several restaurants on premises: Tuscany for Italian cuisine; Simply Fish, which serves dinner right on the beach; LaVista, which has an excellent breakfast buffett; and Champion's, which is in the Ocean Club next door, serving burgers and pub fare. There is also a sushi bar and dessert kiosk (awesome) in the lobby of the hotel.
The casino and gift shops are also in the lobby. The concierge can make any excursion or dinner reservations for you. They are always available to help and are very pleasant to deal with.
The beach and pool are just beautiful. They really do speak for themselves. Happy hour from 4-5 (?) I believe.
My do-not-miss suggestions for dinner: Simply Fish & Madame Janette's. Also, you make want to take the missus downtown for a little jewelry shopping (hint, hint
Have a wonderful time, and congratulations!
