Thumbs up

>>> "you are free to bring food and booze in as much as you like"
----- Ditto. Even on the beach. Please don't use glass around the pool or beach.
>>> "There is no reason to exchange money."
------ Cab and bus fares are in US $$ and casino bets are in US $$.
Around most resorts prices are in US$$. If you charge stuff to your room that will be in US $$. I always bring a lot of coins(silver) and small US bills so always have the correct amount.
Pennies are not used in Aruba so things are rounded to the .05.
Most stores will have prices in US$$. Some bagel, subway, and donut places may have their prices posted but will accept US $$ and US silver coins. Really like their muffins in the mornings as make my own coffee in the unit.

when paying for something in american dollar/cash, if there is change given sometimes that change will be in florins.
Ex: lings grocery always customers florins as change. bring that change to the customer service counter and have it converted to $$

----- DEBIT's very. Checks no but do not know how a check card works. Aruba will not usually accept US Checks as it takes too long to clear if its a paper check. Anyway would not use Debit except at your resort or a Bank ATM.
Every so often on one of the many Aruban BB's you hear where a card is used and after that the person's # is used somewhere else. Yes, you protest and the $,$$$ is reversed since card not used but if its DEBIT card that comes right out of your checking. How long will your Debit people take to return your cash.

We have stayed at the Hyatt a number of times - you can request a refrigerator to be put in your room when you arrive - they also have microwaves available.

Money

Hello Bill-- When I arrive on the island, I generally go to an ATM and withdraw some AFL. I bring USD with me. That way I have a little of both. My home is on the backside of the island so I shop in the local stores. The AFL does better in that case. Enjoy your trip! It will be outstanding.

This is probably a silly question but... I hate to carry a lot of cash and generally use AmEx for most purchases. Is AmEx readily accepted?

Thanks
