More Wind Turbines

Today I spoke with a fellow who works for one of the companies involved in constructing the wind turbines here in Aruba. He informed me that 10 more are in the works and that they may be built further north and west. He said that they are very pleased with the way the first 10 are operating, actually exceeding expected output. When the next 10 are in place, up to 36% of the island's electricity will be generated by wind power. Nice.

Will this lower the cost of electric on the island?

DannyO,

I doubt it will lower the price of electricity. However, it may slow the rise in prices, especially if oil spikes again, as it will.

Good News. Glad to hear about 10 more in the works. Hopefully it will keep the cost of electricty from going up.

SanNic,
Spoken with a friend of mine from the island in November and I asked him about the turbines. He was disappointed because many were under the assumption that the cost of their electric bills would be reduced when the turbines became operational. When this did not happen he said they wondered where the cost savings were going since it wasnt to the Aruban people.....Do not know whether he(they) misunderstood or if that is what they were told in order to get everyone acceptable to the idea to begin with ?????

Danadog,

There are so many rumors on this small island that it boggles the mind. I recall no promises on this front from actual persons of authority. However, if the price of oil goes back up, they will be better shielded from it, the more power they have.

It's just like the refinery. There are rumors galore but first hand information is very difficult to come by. Hence, I believe none of it until I speak directly to a source.

Anyway, it'll be okay.
