    Unhappy mosquitoes

Just got back and both my sister and I have bites all over our legs and arms. Had no idea it was mosquitoes. We kind of thought, since we didn't see any of the biters, that it might have been fleas...from the dogs that frequent the beaches or the feral cats that hang around some of the areas. We didn't go near many of them, but did have one or two come up and beg for food. And we were sitting right in the sand.
Right now you can't see much of my tan as I am sitting here covered in Calamine lotion to, hopefully, stop the itching...

We just returned on Sunday, 1/25, from two weeks on the island and found those little buggers to be unbearable this year! No matter where we went, there they were!!! Of course, we never saw them, but we had the bites to prove it! We stayed at Gold Coast Villas, but they also found us at every outside restaurant we ate at!

This was the worst year for mosquitos as far as we're concerned, and don't know why because there has not been a lot of rain. Ended up buying OFF and Humphry's ointment at the Botica - both helped. So from now on, I will buy the stuff in the States and go to the island armed with these two things.

In the two trips that I have been in Aruba in March I have never been bite by bugs nor my family we stayed at The Westin and were in the sand and outside every evening. We never put on bug repellant. Hmm, I wonder what is biting??

    Smile Mosquitoes

What are your tips on keeping the dreaded Mosquitoes at bay ?
For people living in Aruba, are there plants that keep them away?

i don't know about any plants that keep the "aruban mossy at bay".
i had one of those antimosqito plants at my house and i did not think it worked.

in aruba we have used fabric softener sheets, rubbed on our skin ...worked fairly successfully.
and of course OLD woodsman which really smells bad, but works well.

Definitely do not keep any standing water around your home.
