Mosquitoes
I know that there are mosquitoes in Aruba but how bad are they? Are they just a problem during dusk and dawn? Or are they a problem all day so that you need to use repellant all the time? We are going to Aruba for the fist time in September and we will be staying at the Marriott Ocean Club.

I'm not sure if there are Mosquitoes, there is something, being husband has the sweeter blood, i guess they attack him more, I can tell you one nite in Nov. we were out for dinner and they had can of bug repellent , we were always picking up the can and spraying under table. I would suggest bringing something and puts on your legs and arms at nite, better safe than sorry

I can honestly say i never really encountered a mosquito problem, usually the wind is just enough to keep them at bay. The flys at times can be a nuisance, but once again that is only if there is no breeze; they are constantly looking for food sources like unattended meal plates. Have never used repellant. Have a great time!!!!!

The only time we encountered mosquitos was last October after the Tropical Storm hit. There was a lot of standing water and not a lot of breeze, so the mosquitos had a field day. Otherwise, we've never ever had a problem with them there before!

Yes, as others have stated, only when there is water around. During rainy season you can expect some, but generally not other times of the year. September will be fine.

we were there in march, 21-28th. we were at the aruba phoenix, palm beach and they were bad at night, had to wear bug spray. when we were checking out and had to stand at the front desk we were bitten up pretty bad, no breeze in the open lobby. also when we walked to the resturants at night, be safe, wear bug spray!

>>> "there are mosquitoes in Aruba"
----- I understand at times there are. But in over 20 trips have never been bitten. Think it depends when you go. If it has rained and there is standing water for a few days the mosquitoes come. Have always gone in May and June(dry season) and never mosquitoes. So it just depends. >>> "no breeze in the open lobby" ------ May and June are also noted for being very windy. At beach bars better always hold your drink or it may be gone. At beach/pool bars drinks are normally sold in plastic cups and that great breeze will just take that drink away if you are not holding it. Last edited by TomFrederick; 04-29-2009 at 08:42 AM. |
