Mountain top panoramic view location?

Hi again,

On our trip to Aruba we would like to hike up the mountain/highest point in Aruba, where once you are at the top, you can see Venezuela and the whole island. Has anyone else done this before?

Where is it located, and what would be the best way in which to get there (ie taxi). If we were to take a tazi there, are there taxi's driving around that would stop and take us back to our hotel? Or should we just rent a car/4x4?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

-Courtney

You must be out of your mind to want to climb that thing that looks like a volcano.
It's covered in cactus' and bolders and should you slip, you would definetly be dead. I' ve driven past it on numerous occasions and thought to myself how terrible coming down would be. Good luck.
Stay on the beach.

I just got back. I wanted to do that too but never got around to it. I've heard that you can only see Venezuela on a clear day so don't waste your time on a cloudy or hazy day. The mountain is in the middle of the island, you can't miss it. Its called Hooiberg I think.

Ok ok now! Its very easy to climb there are steps all the way to the top and it should take about 1/2 hour to climb and it is a great view, do pick a nice clear day with blue skies and you will enjoy, a taxi will take you there in no time from hotel area about 20 min or less. Enjoy!

It is called Hooiberg and there are steps all the way to the top. If you are in decent shape it's worth doing just for the view! We could not see Venezuela (hazy). There is a radio tower at the top. Don't expect anything but being at the top of a big hill! I'm going in 2 weeks and Hooiberg will be conquered again. (we do it every other year). Rent a car (compact $160us/week). TAKE WATER!!!!!!

Cortney,
Happy to hear you'll be visiting our beautiful Island. Yes, there is the " Hooiberg " hill and it has 300 ( and some) steps that you can climb. The stairs are very stable and have a couple of rest areas. It is not dangerous, as long as you remain on the steps. Locals and tourists climb it every day. It is a challenge though.
If what you really want is to see Venezuela, well, you can see Venezuela from practically anywhere on the shoreline, as long as it's a clear day. Don't have to climb mountains for that.
I recommend you rent a car or jeep ( more fun). There's signage on the road with directions. It's a nice experience. Maybe you can decide for yourself when you get here. Safe flight...
