Need an Aruba uplift

OK, I cant go to Aruba until the day after Thanksgiving so I need an Aruba uplift. How about telling your first time you realised you were hooked on Aruba.
It took me one hour. The bus ride from the airport.

First time in Aruba was for our honeymoon so I just thought that alone was what made the island a special place for me. But when we got home and the wife made an album of honeymoon pictures. We went back and looked at the photos of prior Carribbean vacations and realized that Aruba just had something special. Aruba has an amazing way of making it feel like home.

Hang in there Bill. November is around the corner. That's when we're going back as well.

First time to Aruba was last year. My wife and I became hooked while smimming in the warm crystal clear blue water with the constant breeze at your back! (We were used to the cold water in New Jersey). What really put us over the top was the friendly people of Aruba.

We loved Aruba so much, that we are in the process of building a home in the high rise district off Palm Beach Road near the Police Station. The completion of our home cannot come fast enough.

Regards,
David

First time I got hooked was when I walked out of the refinery gate in 1994 and saw the crazy boomtown of San Nicolaas. I thought, "Now here is a place so full of contradiction that I might just fit in."

(If you need a fix of photos of the island and things, take a look at my blog. I've been stowing all types of material there.)

I think, I was hooked before I went. I am on a few forums and spent 4-5 months reading about it. It hit me on the ride to the hotel that it would be a place that I would visit again and I am in Nov and then in April

Would anyone believe I hated Aruba the first time I visited?

It was only due to divine intervention that I returned a second time?

Mine was on the first trip - 1998. My then husband (and now ex) and I had gone. He is not a very adventurous soul and has a hard time going anywhere "foreign". (understand why he's an ex????). I had booked the entire trip, charter from Boston and we were staying at the then Sonesta Marina Tower) (now Renaissance). The charter flight down was a miserable experience in that our "seats" were actually the restroom as they had re-configured the airplane, but not the seating. They finally found us seats and my ex noticed that all of the writing on the plane (the seatbelt lights, the tray table, etc) were in Arabic. Silent treatment the whole way down! We landed and this was pre-renovations to the airport. Out on the tarmac we step to a HOT, TROPICAL, WINDY environment. We get to the hotel, the room is not ready, they tell us to come back in an hour. We're hot, hungry, and tired. Not to mention, we're still in our March New England clothes. Not having our bearings about us, we ventured out the back of the hotel, which is not the touristy, pretty section, but more of the local shopping district. Hubby was pretty well p.o.'ed with me at this point (like this is all my fault)! LOL. We finally ate, got to our room, showered, relaxed, and went out for our first dinner - Iguana Joe's. After that, the vacation turned right around and we both caught the Aruba Bug. We went back as a married couple every year after that. We divorced in 2003, and my first trip back with friends was in 2005. While I can imagine visiting other islands, I can't imagine having the same feeling for those islands as I do Aruba.

My story began very similar to Red Sox Girl. My first visit was in 1989 with my then husband (and now ex).

I was working part-time as a travel agent at the time and had of course thoroughly researched destinations. Hawaii was too far a flight and more than we could afford. My parents had been traveling to Aruba every February every year since 1986 and RAVED about it! So a cruise with a stop in Aruba to check out the place was perfect. Then husband could care less where we went as long as they served alcohol 24 hours a day.

1989 was pre-internet for me and did not realize that the third week in December would be "rainy season". It poured the entire day we were in Aruba. Not tropical showers, just pure grey clouds and very heavy rains. I could hardly see why people loved Aruba so much!

So went the rain, so went the marriage. I knew it was over after 6 months but stayed 9 months.

Fast forward to 1995 and boyfriend of 7 months. His parents offered us a week of their timeshare on a trade anywhere we wished. We requested the Caribbean and took what came up first- Playa Linda. I was willing to give it one more shot. Heaven , we fell in love more deeply with one another and Aruba as well.

He and I returned nearly every year afterward skipping 1996 as we were saving for our "Destination Wedding" on Paradise Island (prior to marriage in Aruba being legal) with an Aruba honeymoon.

We also skipped Aruba in 1995 to take our newly adopted dd to Disney World for the first time. It was not until the following year that she visited Aruba for the first time. She just completed her third trip and would take Aruba over Disney anyday!
