Although I don't have a blackberry I do use Verizon here in the states. Every time I have gone to Aruba, before I left I had to dial *221 (not exactly sure of the #) or something of that nature. And when I got off the plane everything worked fine. Not sure if you still have to do that but I have included a link to Verizon Aruba info and you can click on the compatible devices and yours is listed.

Your phone will work fine.. You might have a very large phone bill when you get home. But you dont need anything special for it to work there. YOu need a certain type of phone to use a SIM. Verizon is going to tell you that you dont need a sim, because they will not get any business from it.
Someone posted here awhile ago about renting a BB in Aruba for 50 bucks for the week with internet and phone.

Problem is i need MY Blackberry, because its hooked into my company's enterprise server.
As a follow up to my previous post - i walked into the Verizon store today. Told them my issue. Got a completely different answer than what i got from the two geniuses i spoke with yesterday who were supposedly global support specialists. This guy today told me that CDMA with no sim card will work fine in Aruba for voice. But for Email and Internet, i need a sim card and when i get off the plane i need to turn on the device and switch it to GSM mode. I am praying that this works. Otherwise i am dead. |

Hmmmmm...
I am hooked on my Blackberry also. BES running here too. But when I went away my phone was turned off . Well phone was but laptop was running. Can't you just use your laptop to access your email and such? No VPN for you?? You are on vacation, you shouldn't have to be tied to your BB. I will say that, but I brought my World Edition (2nd phone) with me and got a SIM, which i hardly used. All my email and such was checked from laptop.. What kind of business are you in?
