Need Some Sympathy
Well, my better half has advised me that there will be no trip to Aruba this year. Even though we have equal say in all major decisions, seems like mine is only worth about 49%.
We did a family trip to Divi Aruba last year, and it was just pure, unadulterated joy. Superb food and drinks, and altho definitely on the hot side, but after a Canadian winter, I was more than ready for it. I was hoping we'd be back this year, and try the Veranda Building, rather than the low-rise Vista buildings (at Divi Aruba). But, remodeling of bathrooms and a new roof have taken precedence, and the trip has been sacrificed. I need sympathy, and if I keep typing, I just might cry ......... But for everyone that IS going on a holiday to Aruba, I wish you the best, as it really is a slice of paradise. Roadstar |

Well, I certainly understand that home reno's take a toll on the budget but perhaps you might be able to find a less expensive way to get to Aruba.
Flights, perhaps a cheaper route? Not sure where you live in Canada (I am Canadian too) but for example, if you live in Toronto (we do not) look at flying a non direct route (Air Canada is the most expensive way to fly) which saves you a few hundred dollars p.p. Perhaps, look at accommodations that are less expensive and eat out a few less times (stay at a place that has kitchen facilities). Try going at less peak travel times, if you are flexible. Come up with a new plan and see if that might help the budget! |

Such a small percentage for a big decision. When there is the littlest bit of doubt (only once) I send pictures of Aruba via e-mail to my DW every day. Worked. haven't missed a trip in 15 years. Remember, a picture is worth a thousand words.

i am sorry to hear that.roof???? who needs a roof......get one of those blue plastic tarps. we had to put off our january trip due to "mold in the attic" cost a king's ransom to have it removed correctly and preventative stuff put up, new attic vents and new insulation. no aruba in the forseeable future for us. wanna come to my house and we can make frozen drinks, play blackjack and sit in my yard on ther riverbank and pretend we are all in aruba? unfortunately is is cool and cloudy in maine. andrea Quote:

If you can skip the A-I, you can save by renting a timeshare at CDM or ABC from an owner and doing ala carte. We always went to the Divi, but as new owners at CDM, we got to go for two weeks and just returned Saturday. We spent less for these two weeks than for one going A-I.
Could be the compromise you need. Walt
