Re: Negative comments

Hi,

don't worry, Aruba is great and perfect for honeymoon. Your wife is an animal-lover right? Try visit the donkey sanctuary, rent a car and ask for directions at the desk. Oh, they have a site too: arubandonkey.org The girlfriend of my dad voluenteers there and she is a big animal-lover too. She takes in a lot stray (animal without a home) animals, so we have cast, goats, donkeys, rabbits, dogs birds and many more animals back home in Aruba, hahaha makes me happy thinking about it.
She can see for herself that there are a lot of animallovers on Aruba too. And the donkey-experience is a lot of fun, one of the first natives of Aruba. Visit Marandi, restaurant. Absolutely romantic and nothing can beat a walk down the highrise beach, so beautiful. Brunch at le dome is great too, makes you feel special, a la carte and all the mimosa you can drink.

Re: Negative comments

My husband was born in and raised in Aruba! It is a beautiful island and you will not regret your honeymoon there!

It is safer than many places and the case going on now is an isolated one!

Enjoy your stay, relax on the beaches, and watch out for that sun!

Ann

P.S. I'm leaving a week from this Saturday and the only caution I will use is to stay away from the bars......they need to change the drinking law to 21 like the US!!!!!!!!

Remember, the 17 yr. old suspect.... is out there drinking, gambling and driving... he needs to be stopped.... and 18 yr. old's shouldn't be allowed to drink all night long... there should be a shut off point... my opinion!!!!!!!

Re: Negative comments

I am not quiet sure what you mean with ‘strays’, but most dogs you find on the streets have owners who (usually) take care of them. In Aruba, most people do not have ‘breed’ dogs but ‘street’ dogs. We feed them and care for them, but they are not trained and do not live inside the house (as they do in the US). We try to keep them in the yard but they are free to roam the streets. They can be a nuissance for drivers and walkers, but otherwise they are very mild tempered creatures who bark a lot but do not bite (as an avid walker I know what I'm talking about). We do not (yet) have the pet culture you have in the US where people keep dogs inside, let them sleep on their beds and even kiss them.

Ann, I do agree with that. If these island would just change their drinking age to 21 then there may be less problems. When I grew up as a senior we went to the Jersey shore. Now, the kids want to go to islands for the mere fact that they can drink! Keep the islands safe for families and raise the drinking age to keep these large groups of children, who believe they are adults, out!

Craig..If you're not safe in Aruba you won't be safe anywhere. Just use common sence. Besides won't your new wife have a big strong man with her to protect her from the 17 year olds.

I stayed at the Radisson in the high rise area. I dont not recall seeing one stray at all. Dont let this "crime wave" cloud your expectations these people were not islanders the were outsiders like you or I.You will have a great time treat your new wife to dinner at The Sunset Grill at the Radisson and go see Lets Go Latin at the Crystal Theater well worth it. Dont get caught up in the medias (US) coverage of this unfortunate case.

Craig, go on your trip....you will have the best time. It really is home away from home and you will find the people on the Island very friendly and helpful.

Re: Negative comments

I don't think there are many out there who really want to bash Aruba or the people. The message that they want to get across is "How can we continue to support a government that had botched an investigation so badly and is obviously doing everything they can NOT to prosecute a boy whose father they know and work with even though his is the last person who saw her alive and has LIED about the events of that night?" That is the message. That only when they are hit where it hurts (tourism from Americans) will they realize that they have to do what is right.

Re: Negative comments

I have been going to Aruba 2-3 times a year for 10 years. We have many friends there. We love the people of Aruba and service at the Wyndham and all over the island. The food is awesome and reasonable.
I have gone with my husband and with other girls without the husband and never encountered a problem with the people there. We walk around day and late night with no problems. I would suggest you beware of the drinks at some of the bars. As in the US and islands there is the problem with spiked drinks.

I have gone with friends and sent many friends to Aruba because I believe it is a safe island compared to any other place we have been. Heck I even tell strangers about Aruba.

Just a side note as we have been watching about the sad Holloway story. If that Dutch boy was with the girl and whatever beach they ended up, how did he get home???? It is has been much admitted that he was dropped off with the girl. I am not trying to be suspicious but I would assume by now a taxi driver would of come forward if that's how he got home. Did he call daddy?? CHECK THE CELL PHONE!! oKAY i WILL STOP PLAYING DETECTIVE. I just want closure for the family.
