We booked our trip in September a few weeks ago and we recently decided to stay an extra night. UsAir is going to charge each one of us $150.00 to change the date on our return flight! Unfortunatley this makes it not worth it!
Unfortunately we booked with USAIR but they were offering the best deal at the time.
Did you book and pay for your flight over the internet? I ask because we originally "reserved" through our travel agent in April(Pkg. $$$ better). In June we decided to extend three days. No problem or price increase. Then yesterday I ran the agencies web site and found that US Air is having a sale on flights to the Caribbean. Stopped at the travel agent..she recalculated and we saved $452 on our package. Our $$$ for the trip needed to be paid by June 4 anyways so needless to say I handed over the credit card to secure the new price. Maybe it was because we had not purchased the tickets and only had reservations. Maybe because we were booked through a travel agent. Anyways, hope this helps and doesn't make you feel worse. Remember it for next time anyways.
Yes we did reserve through a travel agent and have not received our tickets or any documents other than a copy of the itenerary. She booked it through UsAir Vacations because they had the best deal. I wasn't surprised about a fee, I was thinking maybe $50.00 but not $150.00! Also I saw on the news about a month ago that the airlines were reducing those fees by half. I aksed her why so much and she thought maybe because of a sale when we booked but we don't have to pay in full until July. It's confusing to me, I didn't think it would be such a big deal since we haven't received our tickets. Think I will call UsAir directly and relay your story to our agent. Thanks for your info!
This is the new thing with the airlines these days. They are charging for any changes made and they are all doing it, not just USAir. Unfortunately, this is the world we live in.
Actually TIM-
Your wrong, not all airlines do that! I have flown Southwest and recently was forced to completely cancel a trip with NO fees whatsoever, not to mention the airlines normally do not charge that much of a fee!
Appreciate your negative sarcasm...
1) SW is far from a ghetto airline! Right now they're the only one making a profit, without charging ridiculous fees. And you get soda and pretzels still! LOL!
2) Yes, the majors have all upped their fees. Has nothing to do with your agent or the package she booked for you. That's standard with them all. Word is out that they will reduce, or have already reduced some fees in order to remain competitive with the low-cost airlines like SW.
3)Changes to the airfare portion of your package will depend upon if they ticketed your flights or not yet. During most sales, ticketing must take place immediately (even if the balance of the land portion isn't due yet). So if there are changes to the flights after ticketing, you pay the fee. Sounds like that's what happened here.
