Odor at Amsterdam Manor

I have booked a 2 bedroom suite at Amsterdam Manor in April based on all of the wonderful reviews that I have read on this and other sites. Carribean Travel and Life magazine has just voted AM the best of the small hotels. However, I am having serious doubts about my choice based on recent postings regarding the odor from the nearby sewage treatment plant. Has anyone stayed there in the past month or two and can you tell me if these postings regarding the odor are accurate? If this is an intermittent problem I can handle that, but if the odor is persistent I may want to rethink my travel accomodations.

Re: Odor at Amsterdam Manor

I've stayed there in the past (and also have stayed next door at LaCabana many times) and have never smelled anything.

Apparently around the first part of March, the Government hooked-up a new sewage tube and salt water got into the water treatment plant system which created an awful smell for a few days. The plant is back to normal now and this was just an isolated incident. This must be where the comments are coming from.

I'll be staying at Amsterdam Manor at the end of April for 11 days and again in Sept. for 2 weeks - after 10 trips to Aruba, this is now our favorite resort.

A very rare occurence. Sometimes a gust of wind will carry a stink bomb with it. it's like walking past a sewer cover in any city where you might live or work. Don't be concerned.

Re: Odor at Amsterdam Manor

odor was most unpleasant. Eagle Beach is wonderful. Staff seems to feel that if they say they don't smell anything, you won't smell anything. They are wrong.

I'll also chime in as we have stayed there three time and not once smelled anything out of the ordinary. Enjoy your trip and don't worry any more about it.

Are you sure that you aren't smelling the drunken sweat of the Tam crowd?
