WILLEMSTAD — PAR-Parliament member Marlon Jamaloodin wants his fellow party member en Justice-minister David Dick to tell him what role the coastguard plays in the oil contamination in the Antillean waters. Reason for his question is the earlier this week contamination of the beaches of Aruba as well as Curacao.
Jamaloodin points out in his letter that the hotels and beaches as well as the tourists were faced with the consequences of the oil contamination. He regrets the fact that the Antilles do not have an organization or an instrument yet that can measure the damage to the environment directly under water caused by oil pollution. Considering the fight of several organizations that devote themselves to the conservation of the environment in the Antilles, he feels incumbent on asking the minister for clarity on how the oil contamination is being judicially tackled here on the island.
He is of the opinion that the control on oil pollution is also part of the coastguard’s duties. He wants to know is this is true and how many summons this organization has served for oil pollution in the past two years.
