    The old Bushiri

Anyone have any updates on the old Bushiri? From what I heard the deal with the Hard Rock fell apart. We are heading to Aruba on April 21st and was wondering if anything has changed - we stay at the Divi Village and it is such a shame to see how the building is just falling apart piece by piece. Regardless, can't wait to get on the island - this will be year 23 for us coming to Aruba - nothing better anywhere!!

i have no idea what the plan is for the area where the Bushiri once was a "gem".

there are numerous ideas/plans floating around, but i have heard nothing definite.

I agree, it is such a shame to see that property being wasted. I wonder why Hard Rock decided to stop their plans for a hotel ?? Surely it can't be because of revenue ???

What was left of the Bushiri is still there.
And the Hard Schlock defaulted on a limited time window... thank goodness for that. It wasn't needed, not at that location, anyway.

I agree the Hard Rock was probably not a good choice for that spot - I guess I will ask around when I am there and see if anybody knows anything. Thanks for the replies!!

Old Bushiri Hotel will become a public beach did a little digging and found this from amigoe.com

Bushiri Hotel AREA WILL become public beach

Oranjestad - after years of negotiations and lawsuits is the bullet now finally by the church. The EX-Bushiri Hotel will be demolished and instead is a public beach.
That has tourism-minister otmar oduber let them know. Developer Southwest Wild in the field a hard rock hotel building, but after several times to postponement of financing, kept it on for the government. The building lease contract was terminated. That was pretty close to southwest a lawsuit against the country, but lost this one. The government allowed it to claim the two million dollars that southwest had to pay as a deposit. Southwest went into action, but will now retire. The Minister let know that the lawyer from southwest contacted the attorney of the state via an e-mail, in which he writes that they withdraw the case. The government has now finally free game to carry through to what the states for years ago in a motion brought forward: a public beach. At the beginning of 2016, Parliament will go ask for an authorisation for the field 'clean' and ready to do as a public beach.

At one point in the past, it was going to be the designated beach for cruise passengers.
