The Old LaCabana Casino
Can anyone tell me what is going on with the building that USE to house the LaCabana Casino? When we were there last year in June there was some sort of renovation going on. Is there a new casino at that location now?

It has been a rough 2 years since new owners bought what used to be La Cabana Villas. They changed the name to The Aruban Resort and Casino at Eagle Beach. As you were able to see at during your last trip, renovations started on the casino and one building in the resort. The plans were great and ambitious. Well all that is gone now, managment has been run out of town and new put in place, and not much has changed. Seems they were not paying contractors or material suppliers. They filed for 90 days to get their act together. Basicly, to find new investors, new owners or file for bankruptcy. 30 days have gone by and there is talk of a few interested parties. Hopefully something can be worked out in the next 60 days or back in the dumper we go.

Thank all of you for the updates. I was hoping the casino would be reopened by the time we got there in June, but based on the postings I see that's not going to happen

i would wager that the casio will not be completedd within the next 2 yrs and i suspect the entire aruban resort to fall into the hands of the courts.
if they had only paid their bills to lacbana...............hindsight. |

Actually that has little to do with their current mess. They(the Aruban) won every lawsuit La Cabana threw at them. The current problem stems from the new owners. They are the ones who started the renovations and now, well you know the rest.

respectfully imo it has everything to do with the mess
if the VILLAS had paid its due/fees/rent and been a good partner/tenant of lacabana the current mess would never have happened we sold our 2 christmas weeks that we owned at the villas sold in 2003. either way the whole thing is such a mess and i have great concern for those that are owners real bad timing for the gilman group to have gotten involved and then it snowballed from there andrea |

Disagreement is healthy! LOL The problem that the Villas and La Cabana had were before the resort was purchased. I agree it played a roll in the anomosity between the 2 resorts, but really has little to do with what is happening now. This is the result of poor managment telling lie after lie and a lot of coruption. Much of which I can't get into, yet. As an owner, yes I am worried but I am truely sick and really upset that these lies and BS stories continue at the sales level. They are still trying to get people to buy using these scam tactics, and unknowning people are falling for it! There will be some type of decision/ ruling made in the next 50 days. I just hope it is good for ALL owners.

Well it is June 1st and we should be hearing something as the 90 day Govt. extension has run out.... Andrea as you know I own at both LaCabana & (Aruban) Villas as well as many that have posted. It makes me sick to think of all the $$$ many of us have thrown in and some of us own many weeks of the 3 bedroom condo units.... Many up-graded to larger units or VIP and the BS still goes on. Sales should have been shut down by the Govt. when the 90 day extension was given by them, but, they were allowed to continue...... Andrea do you remember what happened when the Govt took it over the last time. There are postings such as " the law requires KL to be held accountable to continue paying maint etc. ....If they declare bankruptcy how can they be held accountable for any $$$$$$ as this Aruban was based out of the Antilles not the US... Lots of questions...... I am glad I still own at LaCabana as well and should never have sold some of my weeks there. Marl
