After reading about Palm Beach conditions after the storm ( Mathew) I decided to go take a firsthand look and give this update.
Yesterday morning I drove down to Palm beach. I parked in the laneway beside the Hyatt. There was a large Ecotech dumpster there filed with rotting seaweed and sand. ( Obviously this had been scrapped from he beach in front of the Hyatt).
I turned right to proceed up Palm Beach in the direction of the Holiday Inn. In looking at Piets Pier all seemed fine. There were about 6 palapas broken off and lying in the sand in front of the Hyatt. The large cabana where the Hyatt has evening dinners and receptions appeared fine, however, the small one had most of its roof missing and a crew was hard at work repairing it. As I walked past Playa Linda, I noticed that the rope, anchors and floats that define the swimming area and keep the boats away from the swimmers was on the beach. Again, another crew was working on it. At Scotts Brats the top part of the thatched roof was missing and will need repair. I continued up to the Holiday Inn. Al, seemed fine. The beach was free of weed though the water was a little murky. At Pelican Pier I walked down onto it. The part where the catamarans go out was fine as was the bar area. Past the bar to the restaurant had a large sign...."Pier Closed" Chairs in the restaurant were stacked up. I was unable to view the end of the pier but given the sign, tools around and condition of the restaurant I would say there is a lot to do there.
I returned and walked south past the Occidental, Hilton and Riu. Again the beaches were clean and all seemed back to normal.
