There is a green covered book (sorry all book are packed) that
has english to papiamento phrases that is really helpful.

Also a dictionary written by Jossy Mansur which is good. I had
gotten another dictionary but when I showed my Aruban friends
found out it was 'Curacao' papiamento which is different
    than 'Aruban' papiamento.

If you can't scan it - you might find it at their on-line site to
post a link to the article:

Yes as Lizzardo stated the Papiamento from Aruba and Papiamentu from Curacao are different. Sometimes when I learn Papiamentu from my friends in Curacao my friends in Aruba dont understand me at all because Im not that great at Papiamento. LOL!

I have the book from De Witt and Van Dorp and it was a good primer to the language, although when I used what it taught me with relatives on the island, it seemed relatively "old fashioned" or so I was told.

Hey! Maybe we could use this thread to practice with basic sentences!

EDIT: Once you have a foothold in the language, you could use the Don Amaro translator (donamaro.nl/papiamentu) in conjunction with Diario, a local online newspaper (diario.aw). Because Aruban Papiamento carries many Spanish cognates, I actually run words that appear Spanish through a Spanish dictionary in case the Don Amaro translator doesn't turn up anything (spanishdict.com). Tis a good way of building vocabulary. (I can't post links yet because I'm such a new member. -.- )

I have been told that Papiamentu classes are taught in Aruba in Dutch, which is disappointing, because I don't speak Dutch. I suppose it makes sense, though, given that the school system seems to have its teachers lecture in Dutch.

    Question Papiamento Help

So, I've been combing through Diario Online and there are quite a few Papiamento words that I cannot find definitions to. Can I get some help translating them? If you need context, I'll do my best to provide it, but I cannot guarantee I'll be able to refind the articles that these words came from.

    There are the nonverbs:

-Encuestion (I think I know what this means, but I just want to make sure)
    -Suidio
    -Recherché
    -Sosedido
    -Lamenta
    -Esnan
    -Mengua
    -Cantica
-Door (this is a conjunction or transition of some kind, I think)

    Then there are the verbs:
    -Mara
    -Bay
    -Compronde
    -Baas

EDIT: (@SUNNY BEACHES) Thank you for the link (it was actually one I've used in the past, so I know it is useful), but it doesn't seem to benefit me in this situation. I'm just trying to figure out what the given words mean.

EDIT 2: (@LIZZARDO) Thank you for these links as well. The second one has resolved one of the verbs I did not understand. However, I came to the forum because the first link you gave me did not translate the words I was looking for.
