all it takes is MUCH practice.

also too, living on the island for a few years would undoubtedly help!

Nice info. I always try to use a few words when I get a chance. A "Bon Dia, cont ta bai?" at immigration always gathers a bit of admiration and respect from the agents there. I use a few words of native language every time I visit a different country. It really helps get a foot in the door and will usually soften a foreigners heart. A lady that used to work at the flea market taught me my first words of Papiamento and I try to learn a few new words every visit.

I agree, I have a small bevy of words and sentences that I have learned over the years and try to use them as much as I can. It does help and folks look at you like...."Okay, at least she is trying" and it usually breaks the ice.
And, I use that exact translator when I am txting our friend in Aruba....makes me feel like at least I am trying to learn !!

We lived there full time and took lessons. I have some of the books we have used over the years for sale here

    https://www.facebook.com/pages/Grumb...8962592?ref=hl
I have not included the shipping costs on the prices of the books as I think people will most likely want more than one.

Please contact me if you want to buy any of the books.

    Thanks!
    Lizzardo
