Pharmacies and hospitals in Aruba

Hello all! My husband and I were planning to go to America for the holidays this year. We have been to US several times so I thought why not go to Aruba this time? But the problem is that my husband is a gout patient and he can have a gout attack anytime. He doesn’t consume alcohol, high-purine foods, such as meat, fish, dry beans (also lentils and peas), mushrooms, spinach, asparagus, cauliflower etc since these foods are not allowed for gout patients. So I was asking whether we can have specially prepared food over there. Also, are there doctors available 24*7? He needs to buy medicines where can I find a pharmacy directory in Aruba. I know a very nice site on United States pharmacy directory where you get the address and the phone number of the local pharmacies in US grouped by cities that has been very useful to me whenever I have been to US. I would like to have similar info on the pharmacies and hospitals in Aruba before coming over there. Thanks!!

hi
i have no answer for you re: the specially prepared foods.
what i do know is there are plenty..........and i mean plenty of restaurant choices that most likely will be able to fix up a meal that is delicious and satisfying. can he have starches and salads and veggies?

here is the link to the aruba yellow pages

http://www.arubayp.com/

the hospital is open 24/7 and it is a good modern facility with superb staff and superb care.
the pharmacies are called "boticas"
a few of the boticas arre open all night.
check out the yellow pages and the boticas websites and emial them if you can.

you and your husband will love aruba, of that i am most certain!

you will get tons of replies and help from the nice folks on this forum.

Once you are on the island, someone at your hotel can tell which pharmacies or "boticas" are open 24 hours. I believe they rotate. There is also a listing daily in the back of the local tourist newspaper Aruba Today.

Thumbs up

>>>> "can I find a pharmacy directory in Aruba."
----- Might find it fasted to get treatment, hospital, drugs, .... faster in Aruba than the US. Stay at either the Bucuti or Manchebo resorts and you can walk to the hospital. You will get faster treatment there than most ER rooms in the US. Also there are drug stores open 24/7. Hospital or front desk will know which ones are open 24/7. They rotate so same one is not open every night. There is one right next to the hospital.

Best bring your own drugs. Not all drugs are available in Aruba. I learned that the hard way.

Interesting. My FIL, would not take a prescription he had filled in Aruba because it was manufactured in South America. I will mention to him that at least they had it.

I have to agree with Eagle Beach Boy. My husband has gout and always brings a full bottle of his meds when we go to Aruba. Why wait to see a Dr to get a script. If he gets an attack, he will need to start popping Colchicine right away.

I should add that there were similar drugs available. I just had to get Dr. Habibe to write me for a different drug. But when I returned home, my physician was not happy with the drug I'd gotten in Aruba as he thought it too strong and addictive.
