    Power Outage 7/30/16

According to a post I read from a fellow traveler who is at the airport trying to go home, there is NO power on the entire island since 8:30 this morning. The airport is running on solar power that is spotty, nothing is moving in line there currently according to the report because the system keeps crashing and having to be rebooted to work again.

We are in Aruba now and there is no power anywhere. No one seems to have any answers about why it happened and when it will be restored. No water either and can't flush the toilets.

Thanks for the update. Keeping fingers crossed. Driving up to the hi-rises now to see what's going on there.

Last time in Aruba, we come home and everything is dark (we stay at gold coast). I pull out my trusty purse flashlight, use it to get upstairs so I can find my packed flashlight, lol. My husband laughed. And no, I was never a girl scout. It helped to be able to get changed and do what we needed, we each had one next to our beds. This year I'm thinking of taking a larger one.

The electricity going off for hours at a time was part of the Aruba experience for us for the first 5 or 6 years we went. You could count on losing power at least once a week if not more back in the 90s. All the time share rooms had candles and matches on the shelf in a prominent location so you could have some light. We used to joke about how when the electricity went out at night, they had to go wake up the only guy that knew how to fix it. I remember us being at the Alhambra casino one night on our first trip and DW was in the bathroom when the lights went out. She panicked a little because it was so dark in there. Several places had generators though so it didn't stay dark everywhere.
