this is my first post. Can anyone tell me if prepaid phone cards are available in Aruba? I want to be able to call home (NY-USA) while there. If so, how much are they and where can I purchase them. Thanks so much. I'm sure I will be asking more questions of the experienced Aruba travelers before my upcoming trip. Thanks in advance for any and all helpful answers. Have a great day!

Pre-paid cards are available at most shops. Others will recommend which phones to use and where they are located.
I myself and friends use SKYPE on the internet. If you have your own laptop you can use it in your room. Or use an internet shop's/hotel's computer and access your SKYPE account and use it. Cost is about 18 cents a minute to connect with a telephone or free to connect with another computer. |

Shops in the lobby of some of the resorts sell them. Since at your resort they can tell you the best way to use them. Meaning: from your room their may still be a charge(local call fee) or may be a phone in the lobby you can use.
Talk to them. There are also some phone centers on the island that charge like 0.25 a minute to call the States. |

In regards to Skype, if people travel alot, you can actually buy a phone number from Skype, I forget how much the number costs per month. But you can also look into MagicJack. I have a couple of them actually. I will be trying that in Aruba. But I also travel with my home phone number via Vonage Companion. MagicJack is like $40 bucks for the year. And you can pick your area code. So getting a NY one is not hard to do then all calls in and out will be local. You can just plug a standard phone into it, or just use a headset on the computer. |
