rental

At the end of April (school Vacation week) we will be going back for our 9th stay at the Divi.

Every year we take a tour around the island, I still remember Rudy (from the old Jeep Tour) serving rum and cokes at the Natural Pool or finding a just picked aloe plant for a sunburn. Those tours we really fun.

What is the going rate for a rental of a off road vehicle so we can go on our own tour? I know that some tours don't go to Baby Beach or just make a quick stop at other places but we would like to go at our own speed and stay a couple of hours at Baby Beach, stop in Charlies Bar for an adult cocktail, or stop at a empty beach for .....

Do I need to reserve one now or can I get one when we are there? Another question is where the best places to park a rental downtown?

See you at the Divi or maybe the Bunker Bar. Thanks for any information.

Re: rental

Hey John C,

We paid $240 for 5 days w/ optima for a Suzuki Jimney 4WD. It was much tighter than my brothers Jeep Rangler suspension was very loose and shimmied around corners- I guess folks who rent the jeeps really intend on taking them way off the roads, maybe the Jimney was just newer. The little Suzuki did well in the sand but did not have the ground clearance of the jeep. We took parts of the ride in segments, one day lighthouse to the chapel and another day chapel to gold ruins & ostrich farm was fun on a overcast day and made it the ostrich farm just before a down pour. The first outting was in the afternoon and it was very quite back there, The second was morning and we got caught betwixt about 200 jeeps & tour trucks blasting thru, it was at that time of the day the busiest road in Aruba.
We parked in a lot on the right on the way into town near the port about one block in.

We reserved and glad that we did, all car rental places had signs NO CARS. You also pick up at airport and get started right away.

Re: rental

A jeep is between $350 and $400. I was quoted $355 a week for a jeep wrangler sport. by American car rental, follow the links on this site Transportation/ car and most of the sites give you a price. Rented a wrangler last year about $400? No problems with it ran great! took off road got the job done just like it should.

Re: rental

After doing a little research I found that Economy Car Rental has the best deal for a 4x4 vehicle. From May 1st - June 30th you can rent a Diahatsu Terios (4x4, 4-door, AC, auto) for $275/week (or $50/day). This is by far cheaper than renting a Jeep Wrangler. Best price I found for one was $375/week. The Diahatsu may not have the ground clearance of a Wrangler, but it should get you to just about anywhere you want to go. Get the insurance, just to be safe. <grin>
