Restaurants

We are going to Aruba for the first time the last week of March. We are not planning on renting a car for the whole week. Are there any good restaurants within walking distance of LaCabana? Or is there a bus that runs all over the island?

Walking distance from LaCabana:

Mango's (Amsterdam Manor)
Passion (on the beach at Amsterdam Manor)
Le Petite Cafe (Paradise Beach Villas)
Chalet Suisse
Tulip (MVC Eagle Beach)

Re: Restaurants

really no need for a car to eat out.
you can catch the bus right in front of your hotel and go up to the high rise area or downtown. there are some places you might want to go that are not on the bus route; Madame Jeanettes, Tierra del Sol etc. that you would need a cab.

Re: Restaurants

I think renting a car in Aruba is a must. You might think you a saving money, But you will spend more. Buses stop running after 6pm. Anywhere you have to go, you will need a taxi. It does not cost much to rent a car. check online. I saw one or two restaurant in that area. This not an are you would like to be wondering around in the dark.

Re: Restaurants

I agree with Amy. In addition, there are several restaurants right at La Cabana, also a Duncan Donuts.
Lat year, buses ran til about midnight but I would just take a bus to a given restaurant and take a taxi back.

Re: Restaurants

The buses do run at night (at least in the summer time). But, they are on "island time" so they do not run as regularly as they do in the states.
Renting a car was a great experience; you get to explore and it is not that expensive. Plus, a trip to the Flying Fishbone is a must.

Re: Restaurants

BULL SH*# !!!!

Pardon my French, it is a nice area around La Cabana. Me and my wife stroll around at night all the time. We never have had a problem, we never have felt uncomfortable.

Lot's of good food in the area although you will want to cab to a few nice restaurants.

I am by no means a muscle man or tuff guy and if I have not had a problem, no one will.
I have often been out for a stroll myself at night, wich is the ultimite no no for avoiding trouble in a strange place. This area is neather strange or dangerous, worst thing that can happen to you is a blown out flip flop! You may also run into an amorous couple on the beach, but no trouble.

Re: Restaurants

I've walked many times at night from Amsterdam Manor (next door to LaCabana) to Chalet Suisse and Tulip. Never any problems walking at night in that area.

Re: Restaurants

the buses run late, $3.00 round trip.we took them last June and again this past Jan. No problem, We travel in a group of 11 and getting cars is really hard and expensive.
It is fun to get a jeep for one day and do the natural pool and some other hard places to get to.I love Boca Prins and the little restaurant there.Enjoy. Theresa
