Smile Return trip to Aruba that is long overdue

The wife and I will be celebrating our 30th anniversary next week in Aruba. I can not believe that we let nine years race by since our last trip to "one happy island". Since it has been a while since our last visit we have a few questions and ask the members of this forum for their advice.

    1. What is an appropriate tip for a cab driver?

    2. What would be the total charge for a cab from the airport to to the Radisson , including fare, 2 bags and tip.

3.Are American Express travelers checks still widely used?

    4. From what I can gather by reading this forum it is common practice for restaurants to include the gratuity in the
check in the form of a service charge of 15 or 20 percent. Is it customary to add a few dollars by "rounding up"
as they do in Europe for outstanding service ?

    5. We will be leaving for home shortly past noon on Saturday, considering the long lines at all airports these days, how
much time should we allow ourselves to get through customs and security.

Thank you in advance for any and all suggestions .

An appropriate tip is what you are comfortable with.
we usually tip 20 - 25% but rarely take a taxi.

check out this link for taxi fares http://www.aruba.com/sigma/Aruba_Taxi_Fares.pdf
$25. is the fare. add in what you feel is an appropriate tip. $5 - $7 might be my guess.

traveler's checks are widely accepted but not so widely used .......at least that is what it seems to me.
my husband and i brought a few in $100 travelers checks during our last visit.
we cashed them at the casinos and used them at a few restaurants. no issues, accepted each time.

re: the restaurant service charge IMO it is not most that charge the 15% service fee. if the service was good, and at home you would have tipped 20%, then add another 5%.

allow 3 hours on saturday/sunday for afternoon flights.
if you get to the airport before 11:30, you may not have too much trouble with lines.
    what time is your flight?

9 years.........you will not recognize the place!!

Happy Anniversary. If you stayed at the Radisson before.... You'll love how it's the same wonderful resort it was so long ago. You'll be knocked over by what's been developed across from the Radisson!! Frankly, I don't bother with AMEX travelers checks any more with the number of ATMs readily available.... and everyone seems to accept debit/credit cards. btw... welcome to the forum!

Thank you to all of you for your info and well wishes, and I hope Aruba didn't change too much, as it was just about perfect when last we visited.
Andrea, our flight home leaves at 1:30 PM on Saturday, so if we get to the airport by 10:30 I should hope that we will be good to go.
P.S. this a great forum and you folks do a great job at keeping things here under control, something that is not all that easy in today's society, thanks
for all of your hard work.

Thank you for your kind words

3 hrs should be aplenty for a 1:30 flight. Wear comfy shoes and a smile.

the hi rise area changes are huge.....I look forward to your reaction/opinion, so please give a trip report when you get home.

After 9 years, the changes will be many. Imo there is not much positive street side in Palm Beach however, the Radisson is still a gemstone which has only gotten better with age.

Happy anniversary! I hope your travel agent has informed the Radisson that you will be celebrating a special occasion
