Rio Steakhouse

I know some of you may have read this in my trip report but I thought I would do an additional post.
On Monday May 2nd we had a real good experience here, which I will explain in a moment. We visited this restaurant from the advise in a thread that was posted by Charles a few weeks ago. Thanks Charles!
The food here was excellent but the service was a little slower than the norm for Aruba. I highly recommend the Tenderloin. Prices were reasonably compareable to the other restaurants on the island. Nice bar area with big screen TV’s. Caught the Red Sox while I was there. I failed to mention that my outlaws (sorry to the politically correct, in-laws) flew in today. We had paid for there flight with our credit card and they gave us cash on their arrival for spending money. My father outlaw gave my wife the cash with out me knowing and she shoved it in her purse instead of the safe in the room. Well, you can probably guess what happened next. The following morning she can not find her purse anywhere. After tearing out a bunch of hair I called the restaurant. I was told that they had the purse. We then shot down to the restaurant like a rocket and went in through the rear door to the office. I real nice woman handed my wife her purse for the examination. All $1200, cards and license was still in the purse. My wife immediately broke down crying and then received a big consoling hug from the woman in the office. She did not understand the tears. We explained to her that anywhere else in the world we would have lost everything. Only in Aruba would this happen. We handed her $50 and asked her to give it to the person who turned in the purse. She said it was not neccessary and that they pride themselves with honesty. Which I agree! But we insisted that she give him the money to reward him for his honesty. He was not there as it was early in the morning. I was real happy that I did not have to spend the whole day on the phone calling the credit card companies. Another great experience in Aruba! Bon Bini!

Re: Rio Steakhouse

Great story. I completely understand how your wife felt. I did not lose my purse or money but on the day of the carnival I was down in Aruba with an air cast on my leg and driving around on a rented scooter. When it came time for the parade I found myself a spot so that I could see. Well when the parade started before I knew it there were a bunch of people in front of me and I could not see a thing. All of a sudden out of the clear a big guy (and I mean big) walked up and looked at me and said something real loud which I did not understand and before I knew it there was and opening like the sea opened up and he made me move all the way up to the front. I had a front row seat. I did not stay too long because I did feel bad that I had taken some of their spot. I thanked him and was on my way. I forgot to say that there was also a very pregant young lady sitting next to me. Awhile later while I was sitting outside of my hotel. This young women walked up to go in and use the ladies room. The hotel guards would not let anyone into the lobby that did not belong there. I took this young lady into my room to let her use the bathroom and when she came out she gave me the biggest hug and smile and kiss on the cheek. She appreciated it so much that I did this for her when in fact I appreciated it when her friend made an opening for me to see the parade. The people who live in Aruba are wonderful people.

Ping, what a feel good story!! Nice of you to "reward" the gentleman too!

Moral of the story, 'USE YOUR ROOM SAFE!!"

All's well that ends well! Thanks for sharing!

Re: Rio Steakhouse

Ping,
Great story and it makes me proud to have recommended the evening for yu. I agree on the slower service issue and I know that they are working on this themselves.
