This bites but I do feel more secure anywhere on that island than I do at our upscale City Place downtown.

The title says 2 tourists robed walking the beach at the Ritz. With the cruiser there that is more than enough confirmation.

I'm keepimg it under raps for now. We like to take a walk in the evening after sunset in the Palm Beach area. If I mention this to the bride then those ventures would definitely cease.

Sad that this type of crime happens anywhere, but it seems to hurt a little more knowing it happened in Aruba. As always, and as mentioned in this thread a few times, we all have to be aware of our surroundings and be safe & smart. The fact that it makes the newspaper makes me a bit relieved - it is not the norm and therefore worth publishing

Way back in 2000, at at the bar with friends until 1 am, my husband and I were leaving the Hyatt to head back to the newly opened Radisson. We were going to walk. Two hotel employees stopped us.

They both told us in no uncertain terms do not walk the concrete boardwalk or the front sidewalk (this is way before the malls in the Palm Beach area). They suggest FOR SAFETY'S sake, take a taxi. We did.

Sorry this happened but safety first. Why would you NOT avoid unlit areas at night? The bad guys have it figured out.

The comments on facebook degenerated into a United States political argument and the thread was shut down by admins. Sad to say I have been hearing about more and more crime in Aruba and the Aruban government has done all they can to hide the issue. If this becomes the norm - tourism will take a major hit.

I may have to rethink my 3am walks...but only time will tell.
Jay, we often think about taxis rather than walking when leaving casinos. You never know who is watching you at the cashier window from a nearby slot or saw you at the tables doing well. You may only be cashing in a small amount or even a loss for the night but still chips to cash, but keep in mind late night, in the dark, leaving a casino probably with a smile on your face and likely alone....in my opinion, it's worth the taxi fare.
7 trips in and still finding things to love. #8 will be great in November!

Thanks Tracey, my wife (Tracy) has said the same thing before. I don't like cabs typically...I hate being in the passenger seat. I don't walk because of the cost, I walk because I love the walk and my hate of being a passenger. That said, its very quiet on my walk home and I typically only see security guards.
