Robbery at Bugaloe

This was taken from a poster on another board.

There was an armed robbery at Bugaloe in the morning of Sunday to Monday (May 17/18). Two masked and armed teens entered the place at closing hour and pointed a gun at the head of the security guard, they tied him up and stole his belongings. They have ordered employees to hand over all the deposits of the business and so they did. The robbers apparently knew exactly where the deposits were, which enforces the idea of some inside job. They have robbed US$ 50,000.00 from that place.

The robbery was reported to police two minutes after 12:00am on Monday. When the robbers left, they assaulted two tourists, one staying at the Raddison hotel and the other at the Westin hotel. They stole their belongings as well.

Police have mobolized immediately to the scene together with the special armed assault team to investigate the case. No arrest are made yet but a thorough investigation is ongoing. Nobody was hurt.

Witnesses describe the two suspects as very young (probably teenagers) or young adults early twenties, both are caucasians, and spoke fluently Spanish.

The Aruban community is shocked and outraged. It was the talk of the day yesterday. And hopefully a wake up call for more security patrol in that area. There is call on the island for severe punishment (several years in prison), as islanders view this as an attack on the island's tourism industry

scary stuff

folks always have to be careful no matter where they are , alone or not.

2 of our members here travel to aruba A LOT and part of their vacation time, they are alone (their spouses retrun home). both of these women have said how this situation could impact their travel plans and nighttime activities while in aruba.

can't say i blame them for their apprehension

amazing how a few rotten apples really do spoil the whole thing huh?
punks............these punks hopefully will be PUNISHED.

They need to learn from police in the US, NEVER give an amount when cash is stolen unless it is a pathetically small amount. Giving large dollar figures in a public forum often encourages copycat behavior.

US $50k can't be right. either the owners inflated it for insurance purposes or the press misquoted it by adding an extra zero. $50k is a lot for a restaruant esablishment to have on hand in the USA let alone in aruba.
