My family and I will be in Aruba for our 2nd time 7/23-30th. I know vacation is about relaxing and letting go but I have a race coming up soon and I need to stay on a mileage schedule. Do any of you know if there are running groups that meet or sites I can visit that can give me a mileage breakdown of the island?
I know this probably seems silly to most but yes there are people that are silly enough to keep up the workout routine even on vacation. If you happen to be one of those sickos please feel free to reply. I would also be interested in meeting up with someone that may like to run a few miles in the mornings.
Try contacting the government department for sports, phys ed and recreation at idefre@hotmail.com or idefre@aruba.gov.aw, they can get you in touch with local organizations.
Have fun and don't run during the noonday sun!
Another sicko here! JK I can't help you with a mileage breakdown of the island, but I will be there July 24th to Aug 2nd and plan on running a few times. I'm not sure what kind of distance you are looking to cover or what pace you want to run at but I will be a few weeks into NYC marathon training at that time and will definitely be running. I have a Timex Speed and Distance GPS monitor I use when I run in places that I don't know the distance. I was actually going to just start running and create a route as I go. My training plan calls for 13 on the 29th. If you want to discuss further, let me know.
Regularly there are walks and runs held here. The best place to check is IDEFRE and they can algo get you in contact with ARUWAC or any running club. Have fun, watch out for traffic, be safe.

Scott,
Sounds great! I sent you a private message on this site. Please check your inbox.
I noticed that recently a few people have been to Aruba and were planning on running. I am going to be going in a few weeks and am in the middle of my ny marathon training and will therefore need to do a long run while I am there (as well as other shorter runs of course!). I would greatly appreciate it if anyone would be willing to let me know what they found out and/or what they did in terms of a place to run.
