    Sad ...Accidents

There were two sad incidences in the past couple weeks:

On Christmas an 18-year old teenager from Holland died during a ride on the De Palm Island banana boat. The doctor thought he might have died of a heart attack. An investigation is ongoing and an autopsy will be conducted:

And today, a 38-year old man named Jarino Damion Toppenberg died in an accident involving a "waverunner". The accident happened close to Bucuti. An investigation is ongoing:

I wonder if Aruban government will put any safety measures into place.

Here is the information that i received:

The kid did not die on the banana boat, he had finished his ride and went to take a nap. His friends left him for about 30-45 minutes and he was found dead already. DPI staff did CPR and tried their best, but it was too late. As of now it has been ruled a secondary drowning. As for Jarino, he was well loved and very popular here and in Holland. He was on a wave runner by the Bucuti Yacht club by the airport and was close to shore. He friends tried to signal him there was a rope attached to a moored boat, but he missed the warning and hit it with his throat. He was DOA.No investigations are ongoing at this time.

Note..... Jarino's accident was at the Bucuti Yacht club, near the airport. NOT the Bucuti resort.

It is sad, its the one reason I don't take my son out on the water in Aruba. He would love it, but there is to much boat traffic with questionable operators...
