Safety talk about Aruba

Many experienced and inexperienced travelers sing praises of our feelings of safety and security while in Aruba.

What do YOU do to ensure your safe travel and stays in Aruba?

Paul and I are careful not to leave things on the table/shelf of the palapa (beach chicki) at the pool or the beach. We use our vacation vault and be certain to keep it locked and secured while we are in the water.

Even though we, too, feel safe in Aruba, we do the same things no matter where we go -- lock car doors (in Aruba we're comfortable leaving things in the trunk), and keep aware of what's going on around us!!!

While on the beach we do use our vacation vault and our beach bag looped around a hook.

When we go to other beaches, depending which one, we will leave the windows of the car open with nothing left in the car. We also wear a fanny pack when we snorkle, with a watertight container inside that holds keys, bit of money, etc.

We use a steering wheel lock bar provided by Tropic.

We do NOT wear real jewelry.

We take our guard dog "Max".

Tropic provides that? Do you have to ask or do they just give the lock bar to you?

They provide one to us. We have used them for years.

If you ask I think they will provide one to you.

I always use all of the above security mesures except for the dog, wherever I go, but I have rarely felt as secure as I do in aruba, even when I walk some streets in Montreal. I got a similar feeling when I spent 2 weeks to Barbados. There are some places where you just feel good being there.

This week, a man got shot by a lost bullet in downtown Montreal while going to work. He later died. I often walk in that area. I won't stop using that route and I won't be more carefull because of this one incident. Life happens and sometimes, it is not nice.

One of the more important things to do is to not walk, talk and pretend to have money(whether you do or not). Do not brag about the money you won at the casino or the amount you lost. Loosing implies you had it to begin with.

Rio is one of the most dangerous beach areas in the world (aside from Normandy) and a local there gave me a small bag that had imprinted on the outside "STEAL THIS ONE". No-one did and I left it everywhere. (Not recommended)

be safe
be well

we all seem to do the same thing...keep our valuables in the room's safe at all times, carry enough money for what ever it is you happen to be doing....if we stay at the resort all day I charge everything to the room so I don't need money...we use open air jeeps, so when we go places we have to carry everything with us, it is a pain in the you know what but we have gotten really good at it....
I do like Eagle Beach Boys idea about a fanny pack with waterproof container inside while snorkeling....great idea, never thought of it...but I have a few and will definitely use them this year !!!!
