Angry AA's SJU Connection

Update on this American Airlines fiasco! Not only has American changed the SJU-AUA segment to a prop plane, but today they have now changed the schedule! We now end up with a 6-hour layover in SJU on the way down, arriving AUA at 8:49 pm! Our return flight is even worse!! Our departure time has been changed to 7:30 am (!!!) leaving us a 9-1/2 hour layover in SJU!!! I SO wish we drove the extra couple of hours to get a non-stop out of Boston!

Has anyone had a situation like this and the airline accommodated a change in flights without a penalty???

UGH, that stinks!!!! We fly direct from Boston, always, so I can't feel your pain...but the thought of a layover that long gives me anxiety. What are they thinking? When are you going? Hopefully the flight times will change - they always change on us at least 2-3 times from the time we book.

Once I get to the airport and I'm ready to go home, I want to GO HOME - not sit in the airport for hours on end.

Maybe it's time for you to inquire about changing to a nonstop out of Boston? I think I would.

Regarding a schedule change by AA.
We have found AA to be very accommodating with changing one's
flight plan. Call AA and discuss alternatives.

Our flights are booked for February, and one thought is to wait and see if the schedule changes again giving us a more reasonable layover. As janlel indicated, schedules often change several times before the actual flight.

However, in order to save myself more indigestion, I may take the suggestion of daka630 and call AA to see if they will switch us to the non-stop out of Boston without a fee. I dread the thought of spending a full day of travel in each direction just to fly what should be a 4-1/2 hour flight!! Thanks for your input.

my friends were on the same route Bost - sju - aua for early February

They called AA, expressed their displeasure of the schedule change, layover etc.... and are now on the nonstop with NO additional charges/NO penalties.

Give AA a call and express your dissatisfaction too.

What the heck is AA thinking??
Oh ya, dollars and cents, not customer friendly.

Thanks, Andrea. Glad to hear that AA was willing to change your friends' flights without penalties. I think I will do that myself and see if they will accommodate us with that same change. We can even be a bit flexible with our dates, if necessary, as I think that AA doesn't run their non-stop on Wednesdays.

Is New York ok?? or did they change that flight too??????
What happen???? is it just Hartford???? I am only 45 min from Hartford, but I guess I'll drive to New York if that one is still a direct flight. I want a direct flight. I just came back from Hawaii and do not want to do a lay over again..

My understanding is that the whole problem is the flight between SJU and AUA is no longer profitable for the airline. So they are making all of these crazy changes. I think you will be OK if you fly out of JFK (or LGA) if they have non-stops. I think it's worth driving the 1-1/2 hours to save yourself these inconveniences. BDL is 45 minutes from us as well (only in MA), and we have now decided we will drive the 1-1/2 hours to BOS from now on to get the non-stop flight! Good luck!

hey all,
we are also going out of hartford. i lamented going thru san juan with aa. i was watching fares when they jumped up 300.00 and the times changed and got longer delays. i tried to get my husband to go direct thru jfk, but he didnt want the hassle. so i took the plunge and went with usair thru philly. the flight was only 921.00 for 2. i know...i'm worried too, but hopefully all will work out. if i were you folks flying aa....i might cancel all together...use that to fly sometime else ....rebook with another airline.
just a thought!
also...check out some tour groups (remy is one) you can just book fllights with them...
good luck
to us all!!!!
