sending a package to Aruba

I would like to send a package to a resident in Aruba.......I have heard that they pay a fee to "pick up" a package....does anyone know this for sure and if so can it be prepaid?

Have you tried asking your shipping company?

We have to pay import duties. BUT, if its a gift or a "used" item it actually has no value....? I received a book a few years ago - gift, no duty. My brother sent some things for my wedding and I had to pay duty at the post office - according to "their calculation". He then sent little gifts FedEx (MORE expensive) for my baby and we paid no duties...
You can state a value, but also state it is a gift! Maybe then no duty. Post office is getting better here since it "privatized."
Good luck. Maybe your shipping agency or the postal services there might know what would apply to the item you are sending.

I have sent packages to a resident several times and yes, they do have to pay a "duty tax" when the package is picked up. Also, each time the box was opened in front of the recipient before it was given to them...I guess to ensure that what was listed on the form is actually what's in the box. I'm not sure how the amount is calculated but it's usually been around $10 or so, I think.

Thank you all so much for the input...........we made a great new friend there and we would like to send him and his family a gift. We just did not want him to pay for picking it up. Thanks again....appreciate it!!

Depending on where they live on the island, I recommend FEDEX. We have items shipped to us all the time and it works to our benenfit to have the shipper use FEDEX because we can track it and it is secure until it hits our desk.

The deliveries are timely as well

If you send it by mail (overnight or not) you will encounter a time factor and the checking of the package.

be well
