sewing machine

We will be staying for 6 weeks this summer and I wondered if anyone knows where to rent a sewing machine? I find myself in the casino at night for entertainment and I would like to do something a little more profitable! After reading on the beach all day, I really don't want to read at night too and the evenings can be long! My husband says he can't carry one more thing so that option is out! I would appreciate any help. Thanks!

Re: sewing machine

I did some 'quick' net searches for you, Janet; came up blank, but that doesn't mean anything much from here in the US with the little time I had to look.

If anyone, Charles would know where you can get hold of a sewing machine. I'll bet he'd gladly lend you his [wife's] if you made him a decent outfit ... especially one that repels beer spills. LOL

A few more serious suggestions:

** Aruba Chamber of Commerce
Kamer van Koophandel
auachamber@setarnet.aw
www.arubachamber.com

** Women's Club of Aruba
President 2003/2004 Vivian Storm-Croes
(Affiliated with Federation of Women's Clubs)
General meeting First Tues. of the month
Tel: (297) 588-4522, Fax: (297) 588-4485

** The Concierge of the hotel where you're staying !SHOULD! take on such a challenge.

** You might even ask hotel Housekeeping staff. You know these folks work very long hard hours and many have their hands full with family after work. Are you willing to trade off the loan of a sewing machine for helping, say a chambermaid, get something made or mended for her family? Ask.

Just thoughts ... ...

Re: sewing machine

Janet,
I would check with concierge and ask if there are any taylors or seamstresses doing business with the tourist trade who might have a spare sewing machine to rent or lend. Also try the telephone directory. Good luck!

Re: sewing machine

Ship your sewing machine to your resort. This way your sewing machine can go on vacation too.

Last year I took my dish washer to aruba. Her name is karen and we have been married 16 years. She loved it. But refused to wash dishes.I hope you have better luck.

Re: sewing machine

Maybe you could UPS / FEDEX yours from home to the place you are staying. Use it while you are there, then send it back home when you leave. Otherwise, I agree, Charles would be a great source of knowledge on this. Seems he know abit about most everything in paradise.

Have a great time. We loved it there and plan on going back in early 06 with 4 other couples.
