My sister and I have been traveling to Aruba together, alone, for a few years now, sometimes we go twice a year, sometimes 2 weeks at a time... I am now 26 and she is 21, getting ready for our 2 week trip back in July--we've never had any problems, but then again, we have good heads on our shoulders.
I don't think you'll have anything to worry about, really!
A very nice lady, voluntering as ambulance driver during the last carnaval (Mardi Gras) brought me to my car. It was about a mile away. After I informed her that my condition did not permitted me to walk that distance after joining the carnaval a couple of hours she asked permission from her headquarter to do the job free of cost or even mentioning my name. This is Aruba.
I am a macho man. Born 1941 and listening to my body. Enjoy Aruba.
Yes - you should feel very safe.
Stay at a Resort where you dont need to leave for anyting - Raddison - Marriot etc.
I went with friends but we did spilt up and go our seperate ways during the day and night and never felt scared. The hotel staff was always willing to walk you around the property as well if you felt unsafe. We stayed at the Raddisson and they would say hello by name everyday and ask how our stay was and could they get us anyting - it was really great.
I would tell my daughters to use the same common sense they should anywhere else. But they each live in Boston and Providence and the crime rates in those cities is many times that of Aruba. How many cities can boast 1 murder in 2 years. Even small towns in the states have more crime than Aruba does.
