Skype Wi-Fi Phone

Hello everyone,

I just returned back from Aruba and I used my newest toy - Skype Wi-Fi Phone. The phone works on any open wi-fi internet connection which seems to be just about everywhere in the high rise area. I found the strongest connection in the new mall across from the Holiday Inn. (Taste of Belgium)

The clarity is amazing and the price per minute is even better. It cost me 2cents per minute to call back home to the US as compared with my cell phone's $1.50 per minute. The phone it self was $149.00 and the link is http://accessories.skype.com/servlet/ControllerServlet?Action=DisplayPage&Locale=en_US& SiteID=skype&id=ProductDetailsPage&productID=80816 800

_______

Our closing on the land went without any hitches. We should be breaking ground as soon as the building permits are issued in about 2-3 months.

You don't ever have to purchase the phone to use skype...you can download the program and speak computer to computer for free.

If you decide to buy a skype phone, is there a contract involved and a monthly fee like regular cell phones ???

Michele, wishing I were there everyday !!

There is not a monthly fee and there is not a contract to sign. What I do is buy $10.00 worth of Skype credit at a time and this will last a long time considering the majority of the calls are just 2cents per minute.

I used Skype last year for two week on my computer in Aruba. Sign up fee for one year plus $10 credits and a call in number for$40. We still have $6.60 left of credit and a world phone for incoming this year for our next trip.
Have fun, Pete

Interesting, thanks for the info. So we could use this phone to call home even if there is no Skype phone at home?

Can't wait for September 2008 - Our first trip to Aruba!

Thanks for the reply. I'm definitely going to have to look into this before our trip.

Hello again all,

The phone that I have listed above DOES NOT require a computer. It is a wi-fi phone and does not need to be connected to a pc. The good thing about this phone is that it is portable. The phone will search for an open wi-fi in the area, all you have to do is hit the connect button. I have found that it worked extremely well in the new mall across from the Holiday inn. The call quality is excellent and no one could tell the difference between this phone and a regular cell phone. It was one of the best electronic "Toys" I have purchased. (I love new gadgets)
