smoking

As a Canadian visiting first time the week of June 5th I was wondering about smoking in restaurants and public areas and the availability and cost of cigs. In our area smoking is taboo in bars & restaurants.
Thanks

Re: smoking

Hi Robert,
I visited Aruba in January and will be again on May 25th. Smoking in restaurants and public is not usually a problem. Every restauarnt and bar we went to, smoking was allowed. The best prices for cigarettes are at the airport in the duty-free shops. However, I hear cigarettes are very costly in Canada compared to the states. By the carton, at the airport, the cigarettes were cheaper than in the states. By the pack, in a grocery store they were a wee bit more expensive than in the states. Hope this answers your question. By the way, you will fall in love with Aruba since this is your first house. We are going back in May to look at properties to purchase ... have a safe trip.

Re: smoking

Hi Robert,

Just to let you know, if you're stuck on one brand of CDN cigs, bring them with you. You will only find American brands here and maybe some European ones around.

A pack will be about $4.75 cdn, so much cheaper than Canada.

Enjoy your first visit; I guarantee you'll be back - I moved down here!

Re: smoking

While we are on the subject of smoking.... why is it that there are so many cigarette butts on the beach? It's a shame that the beach is so cluttered with them. Aruba is so beautiful... I just can't understand why smokers choose to toss them on the beach.

Re: smoking

The cigs are about 4-5usd a pack. But if you can only smoke your own brand you better bring them because they dont have that much variety...
